Just got back from our "politician central" celebration
Edited on Sun May-21-06 03:32 PM by woodsprite
Or what is otherwise known as our local Memorial Day parade. My daughter didn't think I'd stick to my guns, but as I shook every wandering politician's hand, I asked "Democrat or Republican?" since most don't advertise that fact anymore, and some were people I was unfamiliar with. Some said they didn't include it on their literature/stickers because it was meaningless information since Delaware is so bipartisan.

One in particular - running for Attorney General (Ferris Wharton), answered "Republican, why? Is that a problem?" I said "Not necessarily, but I'm voting Democrat." So he said "Well then, we have to talk" and sat down next to me. ;) I said that the Republicans in this Congress (as Mike Castle paraded past) and this Republican Administration have ruined our country. He went on to say, and this is an exact quote, "That's at the Federal level. Take care of our State goverment and the Federal level will take care of itself." I told him that his statement was untrue. We have to take back OUR government AT the State level if we want to effect change at the Federal level. He looked at me like I grew two horns and he just walked away. Hopefully he'll take THAT to the next Republican meeting in Delaware and share my view and hopefully I wasn't the only one.

By the way, his assistants tried to hand my 6yo a sticker. After all, what kid doesn't want a sticker. But MY 6yo said "No thanks. I'm a Democrat."

Just thought you'd get a kick out of how we spent our Sunday afternoon. ;)

2. I would have told him that people such as HE are to blame for...
the problems in Washington because he votes for "people" such as Mike Castle and George Bush.

3. Way to go!

BTW, that's basically how they did it to us, so you spouting his strategy back at him probably disturbed him a bit. :)

It's hard to be patient, but even the voting maching problems need local and state pressure to get fixed.

Way to represent, and give the kid a hug for me.

4. Aw, smart kid you have there
I believe the fact they are hiding their party affiliation is because of the polarization and this bipartisan smooze is just a bunch of hooey.

Sounds like a good time.
