Howard Dean doesn't care about black people
I always thought Dean was rather standoffish to minorities, after all, he was the governor of the whitest state in the union. He didn't have any minorities in any worthy positions in his campaign. And quite frankly, you rarely see him in the company of black people. He's no Bill Clinton or even Al Gore.

And now with Drudge running a report that he backed Landrieu over Nagin really irks me! The DNC should've been neutral in that election! But then again, Landrieu is white, so what else should I expect from Dean.

10. He should've been neutral, period.
Everything in New Orleans is a black/white issue. It's just the way it is. And if Dean truly backed Landrieu, then I'm definitely through with him. I don't care if you like Nagin or not, the party shouldn't have been working to defeat Nagin. Let the people of N.O. decide.

Dean probably knows less about black people than George Bush, and that's really sad! He shouldn't be poking around in an election that was racially charged, and then back the white challenger. If this is true, there's gonna be a whole of upset black politicians in D.C.

Their respective track records should give you the understanding that Drudge is a bitter gossip and Dean is a sincere and hard-working populist.

Calling Dean a racist and linking to Drudge says far more about you than it does about Dr Dean.

Did you really think we'd fall for that bullshit here? You must think we're as ignorant as the Freeps!

Both were running under the Democratic ticket - Nagin used to be a REPUBLICAN...changed his strips to win over New Orleans and that is talked about all the time down there....

20. The people of N.O. get to decide, not people on DU!
And frankly, if I were a black voter there, I'd probably vote for Nagin as well. Black people feel more comfortable with a black person being mayor. And I think it's quite condescending and uppity for people on here to act like they know better than the people of N.O.

32. I used to live in the New Orleans area -
until 2002 - watched Morial leave office and Nagin step in. They people of New Orleans have voted and I personally think they made a better choice but my post was - Who Cares what the Drudge Report says about Howard Dean - there were 2 Democrats running and if Dean decided to chose Landrieu, so what. I think you are the one turning this into a race issue. I happen to be white and I though Nagin did a wonderful job as Mayor when I was there. Landrieu is a career politician - he's whole family is and I think that was on the minds of the people of New Orleans more so than the race card.

Any black person, over every white person? Really? How would you feel about a statement like, "White people feel more comfortable with a white person being ______." That'd be an ignorant statement, wouldn't it? Yeah, whatever....

accused of racism (or un "color-friendly,") we'll know we've arrived.

In the meantime, we just have to keep trying to educate people.

Being black does not automatically make someone more qualified for a position than a white person. And attacking a man for not supporting a black candidate over a white candidate smacks of liberal patronizing. It insults both candidates.

The fact that Landrieu is more progressive and Nagin is an incompetent asshole had nothing to do with it. Makes perfect sense. :sarcasm:
