Edited on Mon May-22-06 12:29 AM by FrenchieCat
Here's what's Wes Clark, the non-politician and non office holder has done thus far this year.

I was just reading a thread titled a something similar about John Kerry, and wanted to make sure we all understand that many Dems are working their asses off, Wes Clark included.

NOTE: Clark also gave Two Commencement speeches this week-end (at Wagner College and at RIP, Rensselaer, The oldest Technological School in the U.S., and was extremely well received at both. Standing ovations and all!

Gen Clark speaks out on politics during Troy appearance
By: Robert Cristo, The Record
snip
Asked if he will take a second stab at the White House in 2008, Clark said he'd rather focus on getting fellow Democrats elected in Congress in 2006.

"Two thousand six is a decisive year. ... Americans are looking for common-sense programs (and) a competent government that solves problems and stops the angry partisanship that characterizes the angry dialogue (in Washington D.C.)," said Clark.

"I'm trying to help Dems take back the House. ... We have a Congress now that's not fulfilling its Constitutional duties ... asking the tough questions of the Executive Branch," he added.

2. Today, I canvassed, in the rain, for a Dem candidate for congress......
Edited on Mon May-22-06 12:31 AM by FrenchieCat
to defeat a Republican who's been holding a congressional seat for the past 12 years....and has a street named after him in the middle of the district.
This district is located 45 miles outside of my district (my district is safely blue).

It was pouring rain.....and I wore my Flip-Flops (I just knew it was gonna clear up, but it didn't :( )

Know why? Cause Wes Clark asked me to....that's why!
It's all about 2006! :patriot:

We need 17 Seats.....before we can investigate and then impeach!

edited to add....Plus, I'm kind of getting kind of tired of hearing about "potential" candidates everytime they do anything. :eyes:

I just want it to be clear, that Clarkies DO NOT post every move Clark makes..........and so, I just decided to show what he's been doing, just so there is no doubt...that indeed there is more to Wes Clark's actions than will ever been posted!

6. Why the rolly eyes?
Why does it bother you to hear about good things other "potential" candidates are doing? It's certainly not anyone else's fault if Clarkies "DO NOT post every move Clark makes." If you wish Clark had more visibility for his good deeds on DU, you should post them more often so people can keep up to date with what he is doing for Dems.

I know Clark is working hard for '06 and I really appreciate his efforts. I certainly don't resent hearing about his good deeds because he's a "potential candidate."

Just I have been put down many times when I do a "Clark" thread....

You are not one of those posters though.....

In fact, I'm normally called a "fan" or a "Bot" or part of a "swarm". :(

I welcome any and all good news about all our fighting Dems. I'm glad you posted this thread about all the good things Clark is doing - I definitely didn't know about a lot of them.

Fuck the haters. You have plenty of good reasons to be proud of what Wes Clark has been up to!

8. Yeah, I was thinking...
Edited on Mon May-22-06 01:02 AM by Tom Rinaldo
It would be par for the course for DU if you had started twenty five seperate threads, one to call attention to each and every time Clark went someplace and/or said something, lol. I think a roundup like this every once in a while gets the message across fine, I remember people didn't used to appreciate seeing a lot of individual Clark threads, back when people were making comments about this becoming "The Clark Underground" if they saw three threads mention Clark in one day. That seems to have eased off for everyone now fortunately. It doesn't seem like anyone thinks there should be an unofficial quota on how many threads can mention one Democrat on a single day, and I think that is a change for the good.

Meanwhile Clark is busting his butt for 2006 and we need to also.

Hey Frenchie, once you're feet are wet, they're wet, right? What's a little more water? Thanks for being such a trooper!

11. Well, yeah....my feet did certainly get wet....
But it was my brand new leather orange designer Flip-flops that were the victim....not my Feet. LOL!

Guess I just wanted the record set straight on Wes and his activities....cause I reckon that most folks just don't know what the man's doing.

I remember the recent thread where Clark was called "Adorable", while others were said to be "fighting". That may have been the thread that "miffed" me the most!

From that same OP, the full quote:

"Yeah, Clark is adorable but he hasn't been fighting the fight."

I guess you have to post Clark events, Frenchie, or leave people in such ignorance

61. If posting = reading
...then maybe that might work. But somehow I just don't think it would. Maybe we should post too. You know, how we actually have lives off-line and manage to take an active role in politics. Would we then be reminded by posters how important it was to leave the web? I don't think that would work either.

Some people got their one-liners, and they're sticking to them.

66. True....
I guess we could start posting things like how we're actually typing on our MacBooks as we're out canvassing the neighborhood AND making phone calls from our cell phones AND addressing envelopes and we while we're out in the real world we keep running into people who keep telling us how much they love Wes Clark and hope he runs and wins in '08 but what would that achieve except to make us look really juvenile and extremely silly. :P

Yep, I remember once being commanded to apologize to someone because I'd disagreed with the contention that GD:P was 100% Clark 24/7. The "proof" that I was worng and therefore should apologize was that there were three threads at the head of the forum sometime in the middle of the night! One even started my myself! Oh my!

47. Frenchie- He is a true leader and we all recognize that fact
I just sent this letter out in support of Jim Webb in VA

From one "Clarkie" to another?

Do you remember how you knew that Wesley Clark was the presidential candidate that you trusted to lead our great nation back to peace and prosperity?

And how based on his life and his ideals you recognized that he was a compassionate man, a hero, a patriot and a scholar?

How he so motivated and inspired you that you worked hard as a member of Clark's Army?

General Clark now says that is his top priority to take back Congress in 2006.

.And he supports Jim Webb as our Democratic candidate for the US Senate

Wes says, "(Jim's) a man who's got character and leadership and proven ability?this state deserves a real, fighting, full-time senator and I just urge the people of Virginia to give him the chance to work for Virginia and the United States?"

Jim Webb must win the Democratic primary on June 13th against Harris Miller and then defeat George Allen in November to become our next US Senator.

Republicans are coordinating a campaign to swamp the primary with R votes for Harris Miller because they do not want to run against Jim Webb, who is Allen's worst nightmare.

So fellow Clark supporters, it is time to step up for Wes, step up for Jim Webb and step up for Virginia.

Wes has given us our marching orders? that we work as hard to elect Jim as we did for Our General..

How can you help?

Volunteer to Make phone calls. Place yard signs. Donate. Work the polls on Election Day

Start by visiting www.Webbforsenate.com. Contact the campaign 703- 778-4079

Or in Hampton Roads, Call your Clark Sister, Phyllis Ander 757-xxxxxxx

Remember that Plato said,

"The penalty for not participating in government is to be governed by your inferiors."

Think about it. Either we get motivated and act or Allen will be re-elected to the senate and then make a run for the Presidency.

Is that a good thing? President Allen?

Lets get marching!

4. Wes Clark is a fine man.
I would consider it an honor to vote for him for president.

When you look at some of the potential candidates we have before us, we do have an embarassment of riches.

5. That was very nice!
But whether Wes Clark runs or not (and I'm not entirely sure that he will), he knows what is at stake THIS November....The future of our country, in a very serious way!

Whatever we need by 2008 will be made abundantly clear in plenty of time....but only once we know the outcome of this upcoming election.

42. I didn't know how much he had raised ....is that from WesPac
alone? Or does that include funds raised from the appearances with the candidates he's supporting (fundraisers held by the candidates with him as "guest")?

45. The way I understand it
Which could be wrong, of course. He uses WesPac funds, aside from administrative costs, to pay for travel expenses around the country as he's raising money which goes directly to Dems and Dem groups. I think that's how he explained it. He's told people he doesn't want big money coming in to WesPac. He wants it going into the Congressional races. An interesting thing he does is raise money in New York and California for candidates in Red districts or poorer areas where fundraising is tough going for Dems.

56. Raising money on the coasts for the middle
That was one of the things he brought up at the Soros thing....He said that a comparatively small amount of money (comparative to NYC races) could really make a difference in some of these races in other states. I thought it was pretty interesting too. These races do ultimately affect all of us.

As Wespac doesn't hand out money, I don't think. WesPac donations pay for Wes' travel, his office and his itty bitty teeny staff.

Thanks for posting. It took enough effort just to compile and list all the things he's done for our cause.

While we're at it let's take a second to remember 2004. He criss-crossed the country stumping on behalf of John Kerry and Congressional candidates until the last hour of the last day.

Wesley Clark speaks at RPI
Updated: 5/20/2006 10:30 AM
By: Capital News 9 Web Staff

General Wesley Clark is receiving an award from RPI. The former Supreme Allied Commander of NATO got the honorary degree from the prestigious college.

But while here, the retired-four-star general gave his opinions on the War in Iraq and the Bush Administration.

He sat down with our Brian Taffe on Capital Tonight.

Clark made it clear that he thinks the President had an agenda to attack Iraq.

He even referred to the September 11th attacks as a convenient excuse for the attack.

"Ten days after 9/11 they told me, the generals told me, the decision has been made, we are going to invade Iraq,” Clark said. “Of course it wasn't a public decision. Of course President Bush wouldn't admit that was the decision that was made, but that was the decision that was made."

General Clark was also the first of eight retired generals who have called for the resignation of Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.

Clark also gave the commencement speech at RPI's graduation ceremony today.

21. We have an authentic treasure in Clark
Edited on Mon May-22-06 02:27 AM by Texas_Kat
Clark also believes that the next two elections (for Congress and for president) will be dramatically different than the last because voters are sick of all the political scandals that have recently rocked the nation's Capital.

"Whoever runs has to run on what they honestly believe. ... They don't want phonies," said Clark.

"Democrats should concentrate on helping people understand they have a reasonable alternative. ... We have to live up to our potential."

22. Here's another article.....

"Ticking off a laundry list of the actions America has taken since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, specifically the search for chemical, biological and nuclear weapons 'with which the invasion was justified,' Clark said, 'we found no weapons of mass destruction...the incidents of terrorism around the world have increased year by year...and the good name of the U.S. has been blemished by the invasion.'

"The crowd of at least 2,000 gave Clark a standing ovation at the school's 119th commencement excercises, as well as uproarious applause when he asserted that when it comes to defending the nation we should 'use force only, only, only as a last resort.'"

24. Clark supporter here.
Clark`s position papers in `04 were not only rational and principled, they were brilliant. A little too much for the MSM to grasp since they seem to favor the soap opera angle....which candidate goes to church most often, which candidate might be a girlie-man, etc.

Wes Clark is a true leader. I`d be proud to support him if he runs in `08. Thanks for posting this.

35. He campaigned for Kerry/Edwards with the same intensity.
He was considered one of their best surrogates. He seemed to be everywhere: He sat behind John Edwards in Wilmington, NC while Edwards gave a major National Security speech;
and he often met up with John Kerry in many of the western states where they appeared on stage together. On the last day of the '04 campaign, they asked General Clark to go to Nevada where he made personal phone calls to voters right up until the polls closed.

There was no one better at defending John Kerry against the swiftboaters. He was never afraid to throw "red-meat" to the audience when it came to John Kerry's military record versus The chicken-hawk Bush administration.

I also remember for a long time he would just take the "red-eye" plane, sometimes at his own expense; and then the Kerry/Edwards campaign decided it would be worth it to them to rent Clark his own jet, since he was needed in so many places.

Wes is one of the best leaders out there, but he has never forgotten how to be a good soldier.

39. Very true, Any Democrat willing to offer leadership to our nation...
...really has to start by providing leadership in the Democratic Party's efforts to retake Congress in 2006. All of these men are pitching in and should be commended for it. I am particularly proud of how Wes Clark is succeeding in acting on Dean's 50 State strategy NOW, by consistently going into areas of the nation that have not always treated National Democrats with respect, to champion our message there alongside local Democrats fighting to throw Republican incumbents out of office. We have to do that to become the majority party again.

58. 50 state strategy
Yes, I love so much how he is doing this. That's another thing he stressed at the Soros thing, the need for Dems to contest every district, every state, red, blue or whatever....I'm glad he's out there with those who dare to take the battle to the Republicans in areas that have been less than friendly to Dems recently. And I'm glad to see that these battlers are so pleased to have the General standing with them.

41. I can only hope that
Wes's ongoing work in supporting Democratic candidates finally lays to rest the smears that he was a Republican in disguise.

I remember a very bitter argument during the primaries with someone who found Clark sinister, arrogant and untrustworthy, that somehow he was part of some Repug plot. :eyes:

Wes is amazing and I am sure all this work for Democratic candidates will pay off.

81. Yes, but a much broader range of DU'ers and other activists...
...know Clark much better now, now that Clark has had more time to create facts on the ground showing his loyalty to the Democratic Party. Opponents will try to use that smear against him, but most activists are fair minded when it comes to defending good Democrats, even if they might be more tuned into a different Democrat for President. I actually am optimistic that it won't only be "Clark supporters" who will defend Clark when that happens, just like it isn't only "Dean supporters" who defend Dean now when hacks come gunning for him.

Whenever some media talking head or pundit tries to pretend that Democratic Party leaders are just sitting hiding, not saying much, while they hope the Republican Party self destructs, I'll try to remember to send this to them. Also when that same bunch thinks that talking about who might become the Democratic nominee in 2008 pretty much begins and ends with mentioning Hillary and Warner.

83. Not that I want to mention 2008 so much....but
I would say that for 2008, Democrats have to make sure that whomever the nominee is....it is someone that can campaign in 50 states without a problem. Someone who Dem candidates running will be glad to host. That may seem easy, but it is actually a tall order. One that General Clark fills very well! Just sayin'!

85. I don't think blue-staters understand
what a huge difference it is between campaigning around friendly (more or less) Democratic audiences and campaigning among general election voters in Red States.

Very very few Democrats are able to walk into an event with a cross section of voters who are (perhaps) disaffected Republicans, independents AND Democrats and win them over to a cause or to their side.

I think it may be part of the problem that Blue State Democratic candidates for national office have when trying to appeal to the WHOLE country. I'm not sure the Nor'eastern Liberal 'put down' is really the fundamental problem. I think it's just that they've only every appealed to voters from a very narrow spectrum. Don't get me wrong, Democrats have widely ranging views on issues, but they're all still on the 'blue' side. They've never really encountered voters outside their own comfort zone.

I don't think Clark has that problem. He seems to be able to persuade voters across the spectrum based on the personal philosophies of many of his supporters. Greens, blue dog dems, yellow dog dems, liberals, moderates, disaffected republicans, independents, and even traditional repubs (not the neo-cons).

As Kerry said during a campaign stop in Arkansas in 04: "Wes gets better and better every time I see him."
