People are looking for something different from the Democrats... |
|
They want to see a different strategy regarding the war in Iraq. It is not enough to say it was handled wrong. Perhaps it should not have been handled at all??
They want to see a different strategy in regards to immigration. It is not enough to agree with Bush and the Republicans that we need a "guest worker" program. They want to see a program that lives up to America's ideals.
They want to see a different policy regards to healthcare and Medicare. Spending $800 billion dollars should get us more than just a gift horse to the pharmaceuticals. Surely we can do better than that?
Americans want to hear a different policy regarding energy and the price of gasoline. Drilling in our national parks is not going to solve our problem. We need new energy supplies and we need a conservation movement in our country. We cannot continue to be at the mercy of Middle Eastern oil.

but so far average voters haven't been willing to vote that way. They say this stuff all the time...but first their internalized conservative bias has to be exposed and they have do truly let go of it. Democrats always fall for what they say on face value though, and always come up with A Plan that despite their claims average voters don't actually end up buying.

3. NYT "Democrats Offer Alternative to Republican Energy Plan" |
|
-from last THURSDAY: http://www.nytimes.com/2006/05/18/washington/18dems.html?_r=1&oref=sloginSaturday's WP Democrats to Focus on Fuel http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/05/19/AR2006051901626.htmlHere are the details- http://www.democraticleader.house.gov/pdf/EnergizingAmericaHD.pdfI don't understand how DUers can NOT see this stuff as it comes out. I'm not going to google the 100 supporters of Murtha's plan or any of the health and medicare and conservation policies. They're all easily available if you're interested.

5. Here's one possible reason |

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x2639992Peoplpe are just plain pissed off and they want someone to be pissed off right along with them. On **that** level, anyone who mirrors their feelings feels heard, respected, and a bit more hopeful than before the connection was made. And then they listen.

Russert, for example, had 3 partisan guests on this Sunday's MTP: Rice, and to "debate" immigration, 2 other repulicans.
And coverage in both the WP and the NYT is sort of "getting out" except for the relatively small cable audience (which remains well versed in bear attacks)

7. Yeah. They're looking for someone with a backbone & balls. |
|
We need more people like Feingold who has the guts to stand up to Bush and tell it like it is. Bush makes his own laws or decides which laws or parts of laws he may or may not obey, spits on the Constitution and sneers at us. We need Democrats (or somebody!) to start fighting back and trying to rouse/inform the sheeple before we lose all our civil liberties to the Neocons. Its a tremendous uphill battle because right now the Repubs/Neocons have the Congressional votes, the media in their backpocket and plenty of funding. But too many Democrats are not even attempting to speak up or fight back.
