Edited on Mon May-22-06 01:24 PM by blm
Because it sure as hell must be the single most INEEFECTIVE part of the Democratic party and its weakest link, by far.

It needs a FULL OVERHAUL and REAL media watchers put in charge to help stay on top of REALITY in countering the RW machine.

3. Good question, blm. I don't know of any faction that would
claim that responsibility. They're just oh so busy ignoring issues that might be sinking us. Would be nice if they checked in here once in awhile, then got angry and expressed it.

4. yeah, mediamatters.org
As linked above. They have taken over the function of press monitoring. And of course dailyhowler, although his work has been limited since Gore is out of politics.

For objectivity, Dan Froomkin's column over at The Washington Post covers the press coverage of the WH every day, and Dan is a straight arrow. It's a daily must read.

6. Isn't Froomkin mostly limited to internet?
I think we're tossed the occasional bone, to distract from the fact that there is no nutrition to be had.

7. Has Mediamatters expanded their focus from Broadcast to include the Press?
mediamatters.org does a great job of monitoring Broadcast Media on a 24/7 basis, taping and analysing, but I'm currently not aware of their focus on the Press.

Have they expanded their resources to cover the Press ? If so, that's great - but their work receive very limited coverage on progressive/liberal media - except what is relegated to Al Franken's show once a week but even then the scope of their results and analysis is severely limited to Al's constant interuption with his lame ass attemt to be cute when Brock is actually trying to get out some very important information - and does not allow to encourage media activism with listeners. (which is the definition of lunacy, insantiy and a waste of precious air time, imo) .

8. I love mediamatters, but they only exist to US - they are not on ANY RADAR
SCREEN that gets to the public.

9. exactly my point.
Media matters is great, but their focus and resources are limited and as you correctly point out, it is not on any radar screen -

Al Franken actually does a huge disservice to Media Matters with his lame schtick that he does with every single guest on his program.

FAIR (Fairness and Accuracy In Reporting) is also great and covers both press and broadcast media - but again, their weekly show (Counterpsin aired on Pacifica and a few community radio networks) is also marginalized with a very limited broadcasting and rarely referenced even in Progressive and Liberal Media (radio or blogs).

16. I agree with this 1000%
MediaMatters is great, but no one but those of us to the Left and online even know it exists.

5. of course not--the media is liberal, Dems don't have to monitor it
Every single show is nothing but liberal liberal liberal. Why should the Dems worry about the Pukkkes getting out their message? That will never happen.

:sarcasm:

12. It's becoming more of a certainty every day that the Dem PARTY must be
forced to make this a priority.

November is going to be way too late. And you watch - they WILL wait. They CANNOT get it through their thick party skulls that the MEDIA IS CONTROLLED BY THE OTHER PARTY.

our brave fightin dems are too scared to make a commitment--even to save the country.

Hope we're both wrong, but I'm afraid. Very afraid.

14. I think they just don't SEE it - There are no watchdogs working for them
and their party interests who is feeding them the info they need.

10. Do you remember what Dean said that made Norah O laugh out loud?
Dean was being interviewed by her on Hardball this month. She said why don't you put up an agenda on a website and advertise it here? Very snide. He called her on it said it was up at the website.

Then she made comments about the door to door strategy. He said well since we can't seem to get our message out, that is one way to do it. She laughed out loud, he grinned.

There is just about nothing we can do right now except work our way around it.

It would help to win in November, but I am starting to have my doubts when I read DU. I don't feel the doubts that much from other forums.

11. He who controls the media controls perception, including the perception
that the GOP will close the gap in the polls by the fall. Just enough to be able to steal the vote - again.
