Possible new Republican talking points in case of election fraud |
|
...new to me, anyway.
Yesterday, on CSPAN's Book TV, there was a panel consisting of Arianna Huffington, Andrew Sullivan, Pat Buchanan, and Frank Rich.
In his closing remarks, Buchanan made the point that if Republicans do not lose control of Congress in the fall, in the face of polls that say the public overwhelming wants to see the Democrats take control of Congress, we will have gerrymandering to blame. Yes, that's right, gerrymandering, not those damned voting machines.
Arianna did have a chance to say that it was Diebold machines, not gerrymandering, that she was worried about.
But it got me thinking--will this be the Republican justification if this election is stolen?

In Texas, a few years back, I remember there was something about all the Democrats leaving the state just so the REPUBKLICANS couldn't cut up the voting districts the way the R's wanted to.
If you ask me, I'd say the R's are more likely to gerrymander, and then twist it so it sounds like the Dems did it. That's their MO.

3. Yeah but I'm thinking in this case they may use the machines to steal |
|
the election, and then blame it on gerrymandering.
Buchanan was quite magnanimous :sarcasm: in saying that Republicans and Democrats share the blame equally for gerrymandering (at least as I recall the conversation). But I'm wondering if this is how they will cover another stolen election.

2. It won't matter what the "justification" will be. |
|
When they steal the election - and they will - whatever excuse is used will be accepted by the media. And since the media is the only guard we have against our government, we will simply accept what we're told and look forward to what American Idol will have in store.
I do wonder how the media will spin the new draft laws that draft only people you earn below a certain amount and who own no property.
Oh no, another white American girl has gone missing in a "darky" country!

5. The next election they steal will be the Democratic primaries. |
|
They will put a DLC dem in as our candidate -- a candidate they can back who will be pro-corporation & pro-war & will probably have some silly divisive issue to bring to the people like flag burning. This candidate will not represent true progressives & although this candidate may not be their ideal candidate, a DLC dem winning the '08 election will dispel the election fraud discussion for another 4 years anyway.

7. They need no talking points |
|
media won't question the results and anyone who does will be called a conspiracy nut case. In 2004 my friends who don't spend the time I do on politics but are political would ask what do you think is Kerry going to win - and my answer wss you know I think he is but I'm very worried about the voting machines - well I'm getting that sinking feeling again and I'm beginning to really believe that the Dems will not take back either the House or the Senate and we are completely screwed.
