He claimed that Howard Dean and the DNC worked to oust Nagin.
Discussed here at DU yesterday:

Didn't believe it then and for good reason.

6. Well, if Mister EggWhite Sludge said the sky was blue, I'd look for myself
The guy is just a turd with a bank of computers...he's rapidly becoming irrelevant. How long can you keep your hit counter up with stories about man-eating monkeys and shit that Ripley's Believe It or Not won't consider important enough to carry?

Leopold/Pitt?

Looks like a nonretraction retraction to me. I'll take them at their word?

The Dems need to do this a lot more often.

10. Hi MF
Hope you understand my apprehension yesterday about this story. It reeked of Drudge.

It's too bad Dems have to FORCE these asshats to retractor their lies. Either that or we need to crank up our own machine of BS and give them a taste of their own medicine. I'm getting to the point where taking the high road is not looking so desirable at times.

:)

14. My apprehension was that Drudge was taken so seriously here last night.
It was unbelievable. That thread had Dean being portrayed as a racist.

12. Hotline: Drudge Almost Apologies To Howard Dean...Almost...Almost
LOL :D

Drudge Almost Apologies To Howard Dean...Almost

http://hotlineblog.nationaljournal.com/archives/2006/05/drudge_almost_a.html

"Drudge had claimed that "Well-placed" sources "claimed DNC Chairman Howard Dean made the decision himself to back mayoral candidate and sitting Lieutenant Governor Mitch Landrieu (D-LA)."

But the DNC -- and folks who would know -- called the report unequivocally false, often using less-than-family friendly language."

13. Um - that is not exactly a retraction........

He simply restated the claims of his "well placed sources" and Dean's denial and then said, "The DRUDGE REPORT takes chairman Dean and his spokesman at their word."

That is NOT a retraction. A retraction says I got it wrong, I am taking it back, and I apologize. No bullshit about "well placed sources" etc.

15. It is not a retraction.
It is just saying he takes their word. Which means he got it wrong, but big bad tough Matt D. never apologizes or retracts. He said just enough to keep the lawyers off his back.

20. Raw Story: Drudge got a letter
Drudge 'retracts' story on Howard Dean after receiving letter from DNC lawyer

Note the word "retract" is in parentheses.

http://www.rawstory.com/news/2006/Drudge_retracts_story_on_Dean_after_0522.html

"Conservative heavyweight Matt Drudge has all but retracted a story about Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean after receiving a letter from the DNC's lawyers, RAW STORY can report.

Saying he took the DNC at their word -- and declining to mention the fact he had received a letter from a DNC lawyer asking him to take the story down -- Drudge posted an update to a story claiming that Chairman Dean had intervened in the New Orleans mayoral race. His update noted that the DNC had vehemently denied the report.

"The DRUDGE REPORT takes chairman Dean and his spokesman at their word," Drudge wrote. He did not offer an explicit retraction.

DNC communications director Karen Finney said the move came only after the Committee's lawyer had penned a note to Drudge asking him to take the story down."

Matt in the hat

You call that integrity?

A non-retraction retraction, and just wiping the false Gore story from Drudge history?

Puhlease.

26. Call it what you will
It's far more than we've gotten from TruthOut.

Let's do a comparision, shall we.

1) TruthOut publishes a story saying that Karl Rove was indicted.
2) Rove's spokesman Mark Corallo says it's not true.
3) TruthOut says Corallo is lying.

1) Drudge publishes a story saying that the DNC opposed Nagin.
2) The DNC says it's not true.
3) Druge says he "takes them at their word".

See the difference?

but DU also slammed one of our own repeatedly over a story with possibly more truth.

29. Woah! Just got home. . .very interesting development
Went to the thread I started yesterday and yes I got fired on, was even asked to apologize. LOL No thank you, I have nothing to apologize for. I never said it was true, oh you want to believe I said it was true, but in the OP and subsequent follow-ups in the thread I kept repeating its true. So I don't owe anyone an apology, I always held out the possibility it was false.

For those of you who don't believe that I kept saying if it were true, see below:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x2639247

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x2639247#2639389

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x2639247#2639438

The fact that the story has been proven not to be true, does not erase the fact that had it been true many DUers defended the action. They called Nagin a Republican, you do know Wes Clark once dealt with the same shit. The fact that the Drudge story has been proved false is good news, because I predicted a backlash if it were true. I never said I wanted it to be true, I even said I was not even sure if the alleged action against Nagin was wrong, I was just concerned it would have a negative impact on the party.

30. no worries ... it was worthy of discussion nonetheless
Keith Olbermann tonight said Drudge alleged that Al Gore took a five-car caravan during his premier night to go some 500 ft ---- Al Gore walked.

Drudge is such an asshat.
