DeWine Goes Negative, Very Negative
Edited on Tue May-23-06 01:27 PM by newyawker99
A bunch of tired, old, GOP talking points. Looks like DeWine's sagging poll numbers are causing his donors to switch their allegiance to Sherrod Brown. Now he has to reach for the Blackwell Repubs in Ohio.

Oh, man, these guys are toast, they are very, very scared..

http://www.cleveland.com/weblogs/openers/index.ssf?/mtlogs/cleve_openers/archives/2006_05.html#143553

To cut to the chase: DeWine will keep America secure. Brown, if he was being honest, would "leave America vulnerable to the terrorists." That's in DeWine's words.

DeWine tells potential donors this so they will give him money to create a multi-million-dollar "Truth Squad Media Fund" that will set the record straight with television and radio ads.

Here is some of the rhetoric DeWine uses in his letter:

* "...as a lifelong liberal Democrat Congressman Brown's record on national defense and national security is frightening."

* Brown and "many of his left-leaning colleagues...wish to see President Bush fail at every turn..."

* Brown, "marching to the orders of his labor union backers," fought the creation of the Department of Homeland Security.

1. Re:
"Lifelong liberal Democrat"? Guilty as charged, and damn proud of it.

"wish to see President Bush fail at every turn"? Guilty as charged.

"the 'angry' Democratic Party."? How can people see what Duh-bya is doing to this country and not be angry?

When these RWs don't have any real talking points, they resort to the 'liberal' label. Works every time.

3. Sherrod's buddies
"Powerful labor leaders, Russ Feingold, Barbara Boxer, Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, Hillary Clinton, Howard Dean, Dennis Kucinich"..

He's keeping pretty good company, seems to me.

4. Mike DeWine makes a convincing argument for Sherrod Brown
"He's a lot like Nancy Pelosi, Dennis Kucinich, Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, Ted Kennedy, Russ Feingold and Barbara Boxer."? Let's see, in there we have Kucinich, who had the cajones to oppose the Iraq war from the outset; Kerry, an honorable war veteran who knows a thing or two about being directly involved in national security; and Feingold, who with John McCain pushed through a law that brought a little bit of fairness and sanity to the way campaigns are financed. Thanks, Mike, I'm even more sure now that I'm voting for Sherrod Brown!

5. Very scary situation in Ohio.
I fear we will continue to be a Repug state. So disgusting. DeWine ain't nothing. He will muck up a fine man like Sherrod Brown.

Then we have an ordained minister running for governor. I believe in separation of church and state. I cannot vote for him and would never vote for Blackwell so I have no choice.

17. Ted has not been a practicing minister for many years...
He is pro-choice, pro-education and pro-science! He serves the people! He was my congressman for years until the district got gerrymandered and we ended up with Jean, the mean, Schmidt post-Portman (Ohio 2nd Congressional district).

I had the pleasure of meeting him last October. We had a wonderful conversation that evening. As an atheist he has my vote.

His record speaks for itself, he doesn't mix religion and government, never has.

running for governor and an even better one running for the senate. God, I wish I had your problems living here in Mississippi with Haley Barbour, Trent Lott and Thad Cochran representing me and no chance that will change. At least you have a chance things will improve.

18. I consider myself partyless because the Democrats have far better
candidates that could run but the party machine either won't let them run or just doesn't get involved in promoting winning candidates.

Sherrod Brown in a good candidate and I will vote for him. But when I look at our ballots I don't find many good Democrat names there.

Strickland is not a good candidate and he had no opposition that could mount a viable challenge and win.

He has been in the house for many years but has never been visible. I have never seen him speak on the floor or appear at any televised hearings. I do watch the House of Representatives, the Senate, and their hearings more than the average person. I wondered how he could have been so invisible so I did some searching and found his voting record. I'll post some of it here if anyone else is interested:

10. this can't be a surprise because that's the GOP Wrecking Machine's M.O.
We have to adopt Clinton's War Room rapid-fire response or learn to be just plain meaner. We can't afford to take this crap in stride because sadly it is effective.

12. Running against a classic liberal..
... like Sherrod, what would you expect DeWine to do. I'm surprised he's waited this long. Now it is up to the minds of the inhabitants of Ohio to decide. I'm not especially optimistic, all along I thought it would be a stretch. But hey, what do I know, the men who pull the strings have a well-thought-out strategy. Let's hope it works.

13. DeWine is behind and his trend is negative
He's been losing support steadily as Brown increases. Now it appears DeWine is having to go negative early to shore up his fundraising.

If he's losing donors he's losing voters, too.

The GOP is in big trouble in Ohio.

14. Here's the thing..
... I worry about how effective the "anti-liberal" campaign strategy might be.

In some states, at some times, it is incredibly effective, that is why they fall back on it.

I hope Ohioans see through it, but I find it hard to get enthusiastic about Ohioans' judgement.

We'll see. I'd certainly love to hear the words "Senator Brown".

15. Is he claiming Brown is a traitor?!?
"It would be refreshing to have Sherrod Brown openly admit that like so many of his Democrat colleagues he wants to decimate our military power, and leave America vulnerable to the terrorists. But that would be too honest."

He had better have proof to back that up. Sounds like slander to me!
