That's what Levin said in an interview on WJR radio in Detroit.

2. Very discouraging. No backbone.
Democrats have to share responsibility for the mess we have in our government.

3. Yes, discouraging, and Levin has been strong for us.
He carries great credibility; the Bushbots hate him. I have always had great respect fo Carl Levin. To announce this now makes no sense.

19. Levin has been on defense committees for years, and probably knows the guy
Maybe Levin thinks he's a good candidate for the job? I don't have a problem with the guy having a military backround, I just have a problem if he was the brains behind the NSA wiretapping program.

4. Oh great, watched the re-run of the hearings and
concluded is was definitely a weak "yes" man, had a nervous tic and a nose picker. Well, sorry, I am being petty, but that was my conclusion. A "yes" man is not what the CIA needs again.

5. he is qualified and seems a decent sort
HOWEVER, there is no doubt he will be a yes-man for BushCo. And the fact that he orchestrated the domestic spying program without a warrant IMO makes him out of the question for the job.

I just wish the Dems had the balls to press the legality of the spy program HERE AND NOW.

Bush Regime. Maybe that NSA spying has had it's desired effect?

or if they are just too afraid to fight. The fascism is digging in pretty good and the only hope this country has is for the Dems to take at lease one house of Congress in November.

8. IMO, this isn't a battle to pick.......
this guy has a good reputation in the intelligence community and I believe might do a half decent job if he's allowed to do so.

9. the battle I was referring to was the NSA domestic spy program
without a warrant and its illegality.

Still I think he's too close to this administration and we already know crony politics is never a good thing. Colin Powell sold his soul to the devil for BushCo.

13. He seems qualified and a decent sort?
qualifed to defend and protect the 4th amendment which he seems not to understand

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon PROBABLE CAUSE, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

so decent he thinks it is perfectly ok to spy on his fellow law abiding citizens without warrant or probable cause

Please I'm ashamed of Carl Levin he has let us down.....and he was one of the few Dems I sort of counted on

17. You better google "Trailblazer" and "Hayden" and "NSA"
Anyone that wastes $2 billion in a pet project at NSA isn't fit to lead CIA.

Because of his support of Trailblazer, Hayden killed another project that would have protected privacy laws:

NSA Killed System That Sifted Phone Data Legally

Sources say project was shelved in part because of bureaucratic infighting

by Siobhan Gorman

WASHINGTON -- The National Security Agency developed a pilot program in the late 1990s that would have enabled it to gather and analyze massive amounts of communications data without running afoul of privacy laws. But after the Sept. 11 attacks, it shelved the project -- not because it failed to work -- but because of bureaucratic infighting and a sudden White House expansion of the agency's surveillance powers, according to several intelligence officials.

The agency opted instead to adopt only one component of the program, which produced a far less capable and rigorous program. It remains the backbone of the NSA's warrantless surveillance efforts, tracking domestic and overseas communications from a vast databank of information, and monitoring selected calls.

Four intelligence officials knowledgeable about the program agreed to discuss it with The Sun only if granted anonymity because of the sensitivity of the subject.

The program the NSA rejected, called ThinThread, was developed to handle greater volumes of information, partly in expectation of threats surrounding the millennium celebrations. Sources say it bundled together four cutting-edge surveillance tools. ThinThread would have:
