The 'lighter moment' ploy
Helen Thomas had an apple at today's Tony Snow Show. She and Snow shared a few comments and Snow came down off the podium to take Helen's apple. he made a cute quip about 'an apple for the teacher' and Helen reacted accordingly.

hahahaha

It got coverage.

I'm pretty tired of these 'lighter moments' They give the impression of normal life. Life is not normal. They give the idea that the government is peopled by good guys. It isn't. The give the idea they people in pwer don't take themselves seriously all the time. They surely do.

I know this has gone on from time immemorial, and that I may be beyond just being hypersensitive, but this kind of crap just grates on me.

I don't even see humor in Bush jokes anymore.

1. You make a good point, BUT

Rumsfeld is reporting to the President and the Cabinet.

He says, "Three Brazilian soldiers were killed today in Iraq."

The President says, "Oh, my God!" and he buries his head in his hands.

The entire Cabinet is stunned. Usually Bush shows no reaction whatsoever to these reports.

Just then, Bush looks up and says, "How many is a brazilian?"

6. I didn't see it, but I see the subtext from your description--
it's time to make the grand dame of journalism a "sweet old lady" just in time for her damning book to come out:

Dimunation is a tactic long used against very strong women.

Snowy, she'd still kick your sorry pale ass in a fair fight.
