Cleveland Bids on GOP Convention, but not the Dem Convention?
What gives? What is this telling us about the new Mayor Frank Jackson (ostensibly a Dem)? Whose "political muscle" is involved here? I don't know much about the guy, but I hope the city hasn't ended up with another Mike White - kowtowing to the GOP.

BTW, if Cleveland wins for the GOP convention, I'm offering an open invitation to anyone who wants to come protest - you can stay at my house, I'll even fix breakfast and give you a ride downtown.

1. Which raises a very disturbing question....
What if, as a result of strong-arm tactics from the Junta, no city agrees to host the Democratic Convention?

4. I think that's a good place to have it
Would be nice to shore up support in MN. It has been slipping lately.

2. Man, that is a tough offer to refuse...

...even if it does mean entering Ohio once again, which I've pretty much sworn off... You're a good soul...

8. I'm hoping one of these years, the Democrats come back to Atlantic City.
I'm also hoping that, finally, one of these elections, our candidate will go "all in."

5. I would like to know how to stop the city from getting the event
The nightmare of having these SOB's in the metro area will be enough to make anyone sick.

6. They can expect open hostility (from me, anyway).. but I'm sure the
local 'escort' industry will appreciate all the business.

7. Does Cleveland even HAVE enough hotel space and convention
space for an event like that? I've been to Cleveland several times, but it's been YEARS. Maybe I forget something.

9. Wasn't that the excuse for not bidding on the Dem convention?
I believe it was. That's why it seems so bizarre now that someone from the new mayors office has suddenly decided the city can handle the GOP convention.

This says a lot about the new Cleveland administration, and its not very good.

11. It is strange
I guess they figure they can throw a dome over the stadium and hold the convention there. Who knows what goes on in their minds.

10. Here's a thought about the last 2 republican conventions
2004 was in NYC and 2000 was in Philadelphia - and neither state voted for Bush.

Personally, as much as I hate the republican convention it also means millions of dollars influxed into the city and the region.

12. If Cleveland gets it
Time for "Mistake on the Lake II" reference . . .

Funny, how all the time Cleveland's been passed up for lack of "convention hotel" space . . . like the last time they tried to lure the Dem convention to Cleveland . . . guess that the Southern Ohio Repukes who signed the promise to keep casinos out of the state might have to renege on their promise to the Churches and allow casinos to come in and build the casino/convention centers for the GOP . . .

14. Maybe the GOP wants to dock a luxury cruise ship in Lake Erie
and have their conventioneers and lobbyists stay onboard. Keeps them from getting arrested - they just bring the hookers and drugs on board.

Remember when they wanted to do that for their convention in New York?

15. Cleveland would be a longshot for any convention
and I can see why they didn't bid for the Dems given that over a dozen cities did.

16. If Cleveland gets the convention
I'll drive up and protest with you! Do the conventions really net a City budget that much money since there is so much expense in preparation, police o.t., etc?
