Dean has a solution to stop the fundraising calls and letters.
This is about our party's efforts to rebuild its structure in monthly payments, lessening dependence elsewhere. We have no assurances of winning in November, but we have a good shot at it. I was hoping someone else would post this so I did not have to dodge the bullets here today, but here it is. This is how you cut down on all the fundraising calls and letters....he is right about that. Every fundraising letter takes away from more productive efforts.

Dear _______,

I've got good news and bad news for you.

The good news is that last week ordinary Democrats across the country shattered our goal and injected $250,000 into our nationwide ground operation of organizers. Our plan to take our party back to the fundamentals by building a permanent party infrastructure and doing hands-on organizing is working, and those funds will be put to work immediately. Victory up and down the ballot in November is within reach, and our wins this year will be one step toward building a party that will be a permanent force on the ground everywhere.

The bad news is that the math doesn't work -- these one-off fundraising drives are too few and far between to provide the kind of resources we need to win in 2006 and beyond. There are too many important things to communicate with you about, and too many other important opportunities for you to be a part of the action. Every message we send about fundraising means one fewer message about the next 50-state organizing activity.

I am committed to involving every willing Democrat in our ground operation this November. Your role in our party cannot be passive, and this means a new way of communicating and new ways of taking action.

In order to transform the way our party does business, we have to change the way we raise money. That's why we are asking you to donate a small amount every month. Just $15 each month will make you a part of the Democracy Bonds community -- a group of ordinary Democrats committed to our party's future by providing a small monthly contribution. We've set a goal of 250 new Democracy Bond holders this week. Will you join the Democracy Bonds community now?

http://www.democrats.org/contribute/democracybond

Ordinary Democrats across the country made our 50-State Canvass a huge success, and we need to build on this enthusiasm and commitment. These national organizing days are part of an unprecedented grassroots strategy for the 2006 elections.

We're putting our resources on the ground now to build our operation to win in November -- a fundamental shift in strategy for our party. Our 50-state strategy represents a commitment to building a sense of community everywhere and leveraging the power of that community to achieve permanent change. That change is going to start this year in every single state, in elections for every level of office from city councils to the U.S. Senate.

That means getting you involved on the ground. I hope you'll be hearing a lot more about our organizing efforts in the next few weeks, but our ability to spend time promoting these programs and opportunities to get involved depends on meeting fundraising goals every month.

Your Democracy Bond commitment means that we can count on the resources we need and plan our budget through this election and beyond. Together we are changing the way politics gets done in this country -- but we can't ignore reality.

Like a business, politics requires long-range strategic planning. That's why your monthly commitment of even a small amount makes such a difference. The Democracy Bonds community is the backbone of our 50-state strategy.
Will you join now by making a monthly donation?

http://www.democrats.org/contribute/democracybond

Our 50-state strategy represents a commitment to building a sense of community everywhere and leveraging the power of that community to achieve permanent change. That change is going to start this year in every single state, in elections for every level of office from city councils to the U.S. Senate.

We need to build steadily until then -- more staff on the ground, more outreach to ordinary Americans, and more resources to get out the vote. Democracy Bonds are the way it's going to happen, and I hope you will join me in taking the leap and making this commitment. The future of our party depends on it.

Thank you,

Governor Howard Dean, M.D.

1. Recurring credit-card billing? I don't know about this...
Most credit card companies are run by Republicans - we don't want to make them any richer than we have to.

2. Ok.
Just posting what I think about it....hubby donates on his card, I donate on my card monthly.

Dean's idea is to run it like a business. I like that idea.

15. I like the idea. I do it for the Tennessee party and have for 4 years.

When the organization can count on some predictable amount of revenue each month, they can do things like hire people (if they're needed), rent office space (if it's needed), order candidate/campaign materials in bulk and in large quantities to get the best price.

If they're wondering each week whether they can make payroll or pay the rent, and spend time fundraising, then they're not able to do the REAL job.

I think it's a great idea.

3. For me...I like it.
I don't care a lot for the lack of control and focus as to who gets to use the money, but the plan is simplistic and predictable.

4. I'm a sustaining member of the DNC.
Have been for 5 years. Granted, it's only $20.00/mo. But if there were 1MM Democrats doing this, that's $250MM/year.

5. Exactly, knowing what they can count on each month.
Change requires commitment. One million x 20 = 20 million a month. Not a particular strain on anyone and effective.

6. I need to do this. The question is
can I manage it.

If I'm donating to anybody, it should be the DNC.

7. Over 307 now.
I watched the Mayor's group press conference last night on C-Span, and the change in the party already was just shining through. Those mayors were so well-spoken and very proud to get a voice nationally.

Too bad C-Span saved it for early in the morning...it was a good conference with Dean, Durbin, and the mayors, and it showed the passion for this stategy.

Its easy to make a recurring donation every month. Haven't had any problems. If things go well, I may increase the amount.

11. I might agree if the DNC used a Working Assets type of card and
that there was a formal, ongoing committment to use these sustaining funds to help Democrats at every level, from state house and assembly members IN EVERY STATE, to every CD in the country, to school boards and governorships.

And why can't the DNC have their own credit card company, or use one or more of the several really good companies out there who are obviously on the side of truth, integrity and the interests of all Americans? Like ActBlue or those other companies.

16. There is a state party credit card
In many states they have a Democratic Party Credit Card that uses a good bank. It's a good blue company but the name escapes me at the moment.

23. K&R....Sustaining funds from small donors would kick Emmanuel in his
butt with his "High Powered Money Bags Lobbyists" waiting like vultures to take over the Dem Party if we get in power. The same folks who brought you BUSH I & II can't wait to get their talons into the "RESTORATION" which we here in the "fever swamps" want to make sure they NEVER AGAIN DO!!!

21. I got this email..
... a couple days ago and I'm seriously considering a monthly contribution.

It takes money to do politics. I trust Dean's vision for a grassroots renewal, a long term fix rather than a quick and short-lived one.

Those who can afford to should consider kicking in some cash. I'm gonna.
