2. Saccharine. Total diversion. |

If there had been some non-hospital scenes....
No crying for Mom (happens almost every time).
No crawling around looking for a limb that isn't there anymore.
No wondering what happened to the World that you could see just a few minutes ago.
None of that weird jerky-jolty when you are being hustled to the heli.
No hint of the sound that is only made by a sucking chest wound.
No shitting your pants.
No nothing.
Maybe I am a little jaded.
I have been there.

3. At least they show a tech throwing an amputated arm into a red bag. |
|
More than the American public has ever seen before.

4. Come on, man. Throwing an arm in a bag? |

'Baghdad,ER' was the hole shot.
Remember Karl and them going to ellay and meeting with the makers of movies?
I think this was one of them.
De-sensitizers.
But at least HBO ran it. A lot better than nothing.

8. I wonder what Americans would say... |
|
... had they showed all the real fun that goes on in a war like this...?
The thought of these young kids going through the hell you describe above, like a severly injured boy crying for Mom while still laying in a field somewhere, would truly be more than I can bear. Why should our soldiers be the only ones who are forced to live with those images? Maybe that's what we all need to see right now...

5. I just finished watching it... |

and have to say I was moved, but then again, I don't think I'm desensitized to violence. Unfortunately, many won't be able to distinguish between the documentary and what they see on ER every week. One thing it did very well was show the tremendous toll taken on the Army chaplain and medical personnel assigned to the trauma center (beyond the obvious toll taken on the soldiers and Iraqi civilians brought in).
Of course, the audience who needs to see it, won't. Like my dumb-ass Bush-lovin' neighbor. She slapped her yellow ribbon on her SUV and tunes it all out. And if she did watch it, she'd come back with "they signed up for it." (She came back with that once around me and I let her have it with both barrels - my neighbors now tread very lightly around me.) Sorry for rambling but I'm pretty agitated after watching it - this "war" is utter phucking insanity.
