They are not a body of the people. It really doesn't matter which Party they belong to. They are mostly millionaires, including the Democrats. Most of the Senate are supportive of Big Business and corporations. They are not for the "little guy". And we wonder why most of them were supportive of General Hayden, the Spymaster? Because they are not concerned about your rights. They are concerned about their own interests, which mostly translates into their own wealth.
There are a few that have some idealistic viewpoint of the Senate as a deliberative body. They are really there to stop the House from legislating the true interests of the people. I don't know how else to define them except as "elitists".

They are elite. They do watch out for the business interests rather than those of the people. Their true function, which is often abused, is to make sure the House, in representing the people's interest, has thought out their bills. In other words, just because the people want it now, does not necessarily mean that they should get it now. To establish some stability in society, not prone to every political wind that blows.
But human beings, being human beings, careerists and opportunists will eventually take control of even the most noble institutions. And that is what has happened.

2. Yeah, that's what they claim... |
|
and I used to believe it. No more. The Senate, it seems to me, is a conspiracy against the American people - their needs, their wishes, their freedoms. They are not what they seem or claim to be, imo.

5. The House is even less of a body of the people than the Senate |
|
No longer do voters choose their congressmen. Congressmen choose their voters. Leadership rules the House with an iron fist and individual members do not have the power to adequately fight for the constituents' agenda. The senate is tainted as well, but at least it is a body where more than one voice can at least have some bearing on the outcome.

they are treated with extreme deference - pretty much every business and employee involved in their lives will do whatever it takes to smooth over the glitches of everyday life. Make no mistake, they will do whatever it takes to be reelected. They are this country's royalty.

4. the House membership isn't much better . . . |
|
it too is filled with elitists, and many millionaires . . . somewhat more diverse than the Senate due to its size, but equally unable to represent the true interests of "We the People" over those of their corporate sponsors . . .

6. Jeff Greenfield gave a short history lesson |
|
on this the other day. He said something to the effect that the Senate is not representative of the people but rather of ? (corporations??). I was only walking by and missed most of it. He said something to the effect that the House was the one that more represented the people. I told my daughter about this that day and wished I'd teevo'd it. Anyone else hear this?
