Faith in the White House? |
|
My review of George W. Bush: Faith in the White House. It's posted on Amazon, if anyone cares.
A lot of Right-wing Christians are making a big deal out of Dubya's faith. Why would someone need to proclaim over and over that they have faith? A person with real faith would show it through his actions, not through cheap legislation aimed to throw red meat to his fundamentalist constituents.
This movie is one of several movies determined to "prove" Dubya's faith. I'm not convinced.
Would a Christian work so hard to usurp the Constitution (right to a speedy trial, Writ of Habeas Corpus and right against unusual searches and seizures)? No. A real Christian would work his arse off to maintain the laws of our country.
Would a Christian call the Constitution "just a piece of godd*mn paper"? No.
Would a Christian torture people - even those who might be terrorists? No. The Bible not only says that "vengeance is the Lord's" but that we should not "repay kind with kind" (don't repay death with death, for example). Apparently, Dubya didn't attend the Sunday School session when that was taught.
Would a Christian use dubious (at best) and false (at worst) information to force the United States into a war against a country that never attacked them? No. The Ten Commandments admonishes "Thou shalt not lie".
Would a Christian attempt to institute persecution against homosexuals into the Constitution? No. The Bible says that we are to "love neighbor".
Would a Christian lie about his opponent's military service (Kerry) and distract voters from the fact that he never actually served in Vietnam? No.
Dubya can "talk the talk" but he can't "walk the walk". He's a liar and a poor President. Some Christian. Ringo

1. Mark Twain answers you best |
|
The so-called Christian nations are the most enlightened and progressive...but in spite of their religion, not because of it. The Church has opposed every innovation and discovery from the day of Galileo down to our own time, when the use of anesthetic in childbirth was regarded as a sin because it avoided the biblical curse pronounced against Eve. And every step in astronomy and geology ever taken has been opposed by bigotry and superstition. The Greeks surpassed us in artistic culture and in architecture five hundred years before Christian religion was born. - Mark Twain, a Biography

Well, I don't fully agree with everything in that quote, but I can see where he's coming from. Ringo

2. W does not have faith. Secret Service proves his lack of faith. |
|
For a man who has faith in God, why can he spend so much money on defense?

Welcome to DU!
Well, that could just be paranoia. Have you read Bush on the Coush? I'm in the process right now of finishing it. Ringo

5. I disagree, Ringo84. I don't think Bu$h can seriously "talk-the-talk," |
|
Bu$h is not a Christian, by any stretch of the imagination. Works are not enough alone, but he totally lacks works. That leaves "grace." Bu$h's actions and attitudes indicate that he totally lacks "grace."

Oh yeah. I call into question his faith. And I'm not even the kind of person that does that very often. Ringo

6. The ability to think is an important partof being "moral". You shouldn't |
|
Edited on Mon May-29-06 11:06 PM by patrice
assume everyone has enough ability to think well enough to recognize the contradictions you see. Or if they do see the contradictions, the contradictions are justified, because it's setting one wrong straight by, unfortunately! having to, commit another, the wrong which is y/our point of contention with them and the source of our perceptions of them as Hypocrits and Pharisees.
But I do think a great deal of this comes from wide-spread inability to think and reason, especially to reason about ethics and morals.

8. I am a True Believer and Have Unshakable Faith... |
|
That George W. Bush is a false Christian and has no Christian "Faith". I also believe and have faith that this man would seek to discover, support and implement every possible means by which he can cause harm America and the middle class (and the remainder of humanity who are not wealthy) and our futures. Are you a believer too? My faith tells me that if you are rational, you either are, or will be (when you have encountered enough of the truth).

I'm not sure about "no Christian faith". I just question a Christian who would do everything to undermine a country that he claims is so great and would torture people. Ringo

I thought I had typed "no true Christian faith". Must've been hurrying. He probably believes he is Christian; ergo he IS Christian... decidedly not a "real", "honest", "true" or "proper" one, but one nonetheless.
