And of course, he starts his remarks with a bullshit tie to 9/11-terra-AlKaydah-terror funding.

2. * spoke of Paulson having INTEGRITY.
I don't know Paulson BUT if he has integrity he won't be able to use it because Bush has none. * is the decider. * will decide what Paulson will be able to do.

Then Snow steps to mike and pats the little preznut on the back. Get real.

All I noticed was there were some lovely hydrangeas blooming behind the three monkeys.

7. He'll need retrained
He'll have to grasp that lost revenue from tax cuts help to pay off the deficit.
Instead of increasing worth, he'll have to learn to devalue the dollar if he's going to fit in with this admin.

He'll have to take everything he learned in the last 30 years and do the opposite.

9. You're remembering wrong
It wasn't Goldman Sachs, it was a bond trading firm. I don't recall their name right now, but their CEO was the one how was seen crying on teevee during numerous interviews. They also decided, once they got back in operation, to continue to pay some portion of the salaries of their lost employees for some period of time.

I **think** the firm's name was Cantor Fitzgerald. I also think the CEO's name was Herman Lutig or Lutwig, or something like that. Not for sure, though.

12. Paulson actually supports Kyoto!
Going against everything * and his cronies claim they believe, Paulson thinks Bush's refusal to ratify Kyoto is a big mistake and harmful to the economy. As chairman of the Nature Conservancy, a massive charitable organization devoted to conservation, he actually understands and believes the relationship between the environment and our future, not to mention our own impact on our surroundings.

From ThinkProgress.org:

President Bush’s new nominee for Treasury Secretary, Goldman Sachs Chairman Henry M. Paulson Jr., not only endorses the Kyoto Protocol to limit greenhouse emissions, but argues that the United States’ failure to enact Kyoto undermines the competitiveness of U.S. companies. Here’s a statement from the Nature Conservancy, where Paulson serves as chairman of the board:

"The Kyoto Protocol is a key first step to help slow the onslaught of global warming and benefit conservation efforts…Until the United States passes its own limits on global warming emissions, innovative companies based here will lose out on opportunities to sell reduced emission credits to companies complying with the Kyoto Protocol overseas. Additionally, without enacting our own emission limits, U.S. companies will lose ground to their competitors in Europe, Canada, Japan, and other countries participating in the Protocol who are developing clean technologies."

So what does all this mean? I bet he'll get the Harriet Miers treatment ... the righties will freak out and Bush will pull the nom, substituting Paulson for someone more appropriately fascistic.

13. From the Nature Conservancy:
Henry M. Paulson, Jr. Elected Chairman of The Nature Conservancy Board of Governors

Goldman Sachs CEO to Lead the Board of the World's Largest Conservation Organization

Arlington, VA—January 20, 2004—The Nature Conservancy's Board of Governors today announced that Henry M. "Hank" Paulson Jr., chairman and CEO of The Goldman Sachs Group Inc., has been unanimously elected as the new chairman of the organization's national Board of Governors.

Paulson currently serves as a member of the Board and as co-chair of the Conservancy's Asia Pacific Council. In this role, he has helped the Conservancy work with a variety of partners, from national governments to local village councils, to protect Asia's many natural wonders.

"Conserving the diversity of plant and animal life on Earth is a mission of vital importance, and something I care deeply about," said Paulson. "I was drawn to The Nature Conservancy both because of its mission and because of its pragmatic, inclusive approach. An approach that, in my opinion, has produced an impressive record of achievements."

Commenting on Mr. Paulson's appointment, Carol Dinkins, the retiring chair, said, "Hank's love for, and commitment to, conservation is well known. That, combined with his reputation as an advocate for reform and accountability in the business community, makes him particularly well suited to the lead the organization at this time."

.... Wow. I'm impressed.

i was also a bit taken aback to hear just how many Goldman Sachs people have served in government .... Dem and Repub. They go back to Nixon's days and include, among many, Richard Rubin and John Corzine.

15. I don't think the Repubs are impressed. They have started
smearing him. A couple of "sweet" quotes:

“As head of the Nature Conservancy, Paulson often made decisions that benefited the Conservancy at the expense of Goldman and its shareholders,” said John Carlisle, policy director at the National Legal and Policy Center. “Based on his private sector record, Paulson simply can’t be trusted as Treasury Secretary to faithfully adhere to important Administration policies on Kyoto and the environment.”

“The Goldman board failed to respond to questions about the apparent conflict-of-interest between Paulson’s environmental agenda and his management of the company,” noted Tom Borelli of the Free Enterprise Action Fund. “You do not want someone serving as a cabinet officer who has a habit of indulging his environmental hobby at the expense of his financial responsibilities.”

“President Bush took the right step in not committing the United States to a treaty that would likely cost millions of American jobs to address an unproven global warming threat,” said Steve Milloy of the Free Enterprise Action Fund. “Henry Paulson would undermine the Administration’s ability to counter global warming alarmism.”

16. Isn't Goldman/Sachs....one of the private owners of our Fed Res?
along with others such as JP Morgan/The Rothchilds, etc.? How nice for them to have their very own CEO....as our Secretary of Treasury...that gives them an inside source for keeping track of our country's financial workings at the same time they have a vested interest in them.......what a tangled web...
