Wes Clark is the best spokesman we have! (Just crushed O'Reilly)
Edited on Tue May-30-06 07:15 PM by sampsonblk
He just lit up Bill O'Reilly on Faux News regarding the
Haditha Massacre and John Murtha's comments.

Wow. Where are the other Dems on this issue?

3. It was all about Murtha
Wes really defended him, and contradicted all O'Reilly's talking points. He said Murtha is a congressman and it is job to get the truth out. By the way I really laughed when he told BOR that he was glad he now saw the Iraq war as unnecessary.

8. Did WKC actually say "Glad you've changed your mind about the war..."
to O'Leill.

Camera was on Wes... didn't see if Bill spewed his coffee out on the desk.

You could just see Clark, pleased to have 'set the hook and speared the whale".

6. The Details !
Unlike real news hosts, O'Reilly played the story as being about John's Murtha's assault on the Marines. He hates the military, or course.

After O'Reilly set that all up, he brought on Gen Clark who promptly turned the conversation back to the real subject - which is the massacre and the cover-up.

What really struck me about Gen Clark's appearance was that he continued to stand by Rep Murtha, despite O'Reilly's attempts to smear the congressman.

Gen Clark's key points:

- You won't find any officer in uniform who thinks this is good. No one in the know supports this behavior.

- This was an optional war that the pResident chose, and congressman Murtha is concerned about what its done to our troops, "and so am I."

- Congressman Murtha isn't making this up. He is well respected and the top brass talk to him all the time. He's passing on what he's been told from real sources in the Pentagon.

- Its a legitimate legislative function that he's performing by raising questions about what's going on. Thas his job.

- There was a previous President under investigation, and many in the media didn't feel it was important to wait until the entire investigation was completed. So there precedent for getting involved early on.

- O'Reilly tried to imply that US troops killed civilians at Iwo Jima and the Battle of the Bulge. Gen Clark told him to prove it. O'Reilly said its well known that US troops shot SS troops who were trying to surrender. Gen Clark (wisely) pointed out if a man is shooting at you and suddenly drops his gun and says "Ha! Now you can't kill me," that's one thing. But that's NOT what happened in Haditha.

O'Reilly gave up: Well, I could be wrong, but... Well why doesn't Murtha come on my show, then??

I never watch O'Reilly -- there's not enough antacid in the house to make it possible. Not enough in the whole town, come to think of it.

However, it is most pleasurable to read about Wes Clarke batting him around. The man is truly an officer and a gentleman.

46. Of course he is and that's one of the (many) reasons I support him.
He would get a goodly number of disgruntled Republicans into the blue column should he be the nominee.

Many people just cannot fathom that a lifelong military man would be a liberal Democrat, so he fits our bill to a T. He's a liberal who's not perceived as a liberal and would appeal to moderate Republicans and Independents alike.

We just have to get him through the primary (because, unfortunately, there are too many liberals who are also the norm and cannot believe or understand that Wes is a liberal).

47. Once again O'Lielly gets has ass handed to him....
The General really smacked him down....Comparing the executing of POW's to murdering civilians is like apples and oranges....and the General called him on it.....I continue to think that the General making regaular appearances on faux Spews will reap rewards when it comes time to vote for President again. Assuming the "liberal media" doesn't choose our candidate for us, and the nominee is Wesley Clark, his numerous appearances in the Lion's Den will pay dividends as far as moderate repubs swinging his way....Especially if they run someone like McCain, Guilliani or Romney.....

NOT a career politician, NOT beholden to special interest groups and NOT a chickenhawk....

THAT's why the DLC and the establishment Dems are so afraid of him...he isn't a wholly-owned subsidiary of the DLC like Clinton/Gore etc etc..

51. General Clark works with everybody
He doesn't believe in factionalism and feels he can probably find an issue to agree on and help move forward within the full spectrum of Democrats. I asked him once and he advised to look at individuals and where they stand on issues that matter to me in my own conscience, instead of what group they belong to or what label they wear. I took that to heart, because it made sense in terms of actually winning. So, yes, he's no owned subsidiary of anybody, but he works with the DLC actually very well, as he does with Chairman Dean on the 50 state strategy very well.

Edited on Wed May-31-06 08:45 PM by CarolNYC
Video is up on Crooks and Liars:

Gen. Clark joined Bill to discuss Haditha and John Murtha. It's nice to see O'Reilly come around on Iraq in his TPM, but he misses the point completely on Murtha and the marines.

Murtha has said over and over again that these actions happened because of the stress they are under. When Bill tried to say that this type of behavior occurred in conflicts the US was previously involved in; Wesley Clark got a little hot under the collar.

http://www.crooksandliars.com/2006/05/31.html#a8518

I finally got to watch this...Boy, Wes looked like he couldn't believe some of the stuff that was coming out of O'Lielly's mouth....It looked as though he were thinking "is this guy for real?" Good job Wes...O'Reilly looked like such an idiot...

I also heard Sam Seder play a clip on Majority Report tonight.

O'Reilly admitted:

"The chaos in Afghanistan and Iraq will never end"

"...Iraq should be a lesson learned. We can not ever again put American boots on the ground in a hostile Arab country. Iraq was an optional war. There will always be, or there were other ways, I should say, of removing Saddam."

This one segment with Gen Clark is bound to be remembered for a long time.

Olbermann, along with others, has pointed out that O'Reilly erroneously claimed US troops had shot "innocent civilians" during the Battle of the Bulge. Later, Bill-O changed the "innocent civilians" to "unarmed SS troops trying to surrender." All nonsense.
