Recruiters call me about my clients all the time - Reality Check |

"Can we work this out if he enlists?" "He can't afford a conviction, but these things are manageable".
Such is the weird new normal for the criminal defense....
Atrocities? You bet.

They call it "Pretrial Diversion".
Some DA's play ball; others don't. My guy, the Loyal Opposition, rarely plays. Too much class.
Some defense counsel embrace it; I don't.
Better to do five @ Angola than the alternative.
But, one guy on my watch took the bait. He went. I ratified the deal. Felt right.
In all fairness, he distiguished himself in battle and came home better. From thug wannabe to true hero. Made me proud in a weird way.
I suggest that he is the exception. I believed it then and that's why I signed off on the deal. The spark was certainly there. He would never have shot little children or innocent men and women. Good karma.
Most, I tell, "Fire me first".

5. It was quite popular then. |

I had a number of acquaintances who got that deal here in texas. They took it, too. I can think of four high school buddies off the top of my head.

Right through the 70s too. I'm surprised I hadn't heard that it was back in vogue. Thought the new military was being so selective these days. At least thats the spin they feed us.
