stories from the leftist fringe (leftist fringers sound off!)
Hi, there. My name is John.

I live in a nice house in semi-rural Georgia with my wife and 8-month-old son. I'm a middle school special education teacher in Atlanta. Ms Uly drives a Mercury Sable, and I drive a GMC Sonoma pickup. We like working in the yard. We drink beer - well, Ms Uly does, I tend more toward cider and whiskey.

Others on the leftist fringe, tell us what your wacky, fringeful life is like!

1. Well
I'm 30 years old. I still live at home in my parents basement. I have no job, and I spend all of my money on porn, unless my welfare check bounces.

:sarcasm:

I thought Democrats were wealthy French-speaking elitists this week. I must have got my schedule mixed up.

2. No birkenstocks, BUT....
I live in suburban Detroit. I drive a 10 year old Cadillac I inherited
from my mean ol' gramma (LOOONGGGG story).

My husband drives a 10 year old Toyota wagon.

We had our own business until the economy broadsided the advertising
industry here in Motown.

We have been scraping by for the past 6 years, raising 2 kids,
trying not to charge things.....

We don't drink, unless we have guests over who do, then we DO!

We are NOT "fringe" NOR are we "elite".

We are pissed off Americans who WANT OUR COUNTRY BACK!

4. Fringy on Long Island
I live in what we call a mother/daughter house around here - which kind of means it's a two family, but not legal for renting out. We never have. At the moment the upstairs apartment is occupied by my daughter, her husband and two children. My daughter had been out on for eleven years before rising rents and lowered wages forced them back here. We love having them, though. My husband, my sister and I occupy the downstairs part, and my son has a room here for when he's in town. He's a musician and is out on the road more than he's here. (That might be a little fringy, I guess.) We all work, except the children. We're not doing the child labor thing yet. I'm a legal services worker, my husband is an IT guy who earns just a little over half what he did before his job was outsourced a few years ago and his skills (even with updating) became cheaper in the new, free marketplace. My husband drinks water and coffee and I drink diet coke and tea. We share a 2002 Mitsubishi. We like spending time with our three month old grandson better than almost anything on earth. Also going to see my son's band play when they're someplace we can get to. My husband also likes watching baseball.

To paraphrase Arlo Guthrie, we didn't turn out to be nearly the threat we'd hoped to be.

5. I'm recovering from eye surgery
so my wild and wacky life consists of reading, knitting, cranking on the computer, very little house work, and much cat petting. Every few days I'll get really wild and crazy and go to the supermarket.

Ah, the glamorous life we far leftists lead.

6. Me, my wife (a nonactive reg. republican) and my 3 kids... in N. Central
CT. I have a 3 year old VW Golf running 50% Bio Diesel ( I was making my own then spilled a lot in the garage ) my wife drives an 7 year old Grand Caravan ( and she voted for Kerry :wow: ). I get very angry at the apathy that I see in the citizens but my son made me proud in church when he asked, "Why do we come here to celebrate a dead guy?" I swear I had nothing to do with that, he is my middle child ( 8 year old) and my oldest is the one I float "Question the Answerers" type propaganda at, not him.... So he made me grin and I said, "Ask me when your older and moms not around.. " ;-) !!

9. My name isn't really Lydia, and I was born in Minnesota and raised
as a preacher's kid. I graduated from a church-related college, which is where my "far left" political education began (my profs, especially the ones in the religion department, were against the Vietnam War). I earned a Ph.D. from an Ivy League university, but there were no jobs when I came out, so I spent three years teaching part-time and doing industrial and clerical temp work. This experience was as educational in its own way as graduate school had been.

After teaching for eleven years, I finally left academia and started my own business as a translator. I live in a rented apartment in an urban neighborhood. My car is my mother and stepfather's "extra" car, vintage 1990. I read mysteries, work out at the YWCA, and sing in a church choir. I don't smoke or do drugs, and I drink an average of one or two drinks a month. I'm straight, but single. I've been in business for myself for 13 years.

13. My freedom-hating wife and I live in a midwestern city
Our Osama-supporting 80-year-old bungalow is also inhabited by a cat who loathes the very ideas that made America great.

We both drive Japanese cars, purchased with the express purpose of throwing American workers out of their jobs, thereby beginning downward spirals of methamphetamine addiction, child abuse and excessive time spent on EBay.

We strive to terrorize our neighbors with specially trained Terror-Bees which inhabit the hive in our backyard, and when we're not training them to assault small children and neighborhood pets in unprovoked nightmarish buzzing swarms, we use the honey they produce to brew mead so as to intoxicate minors and lure them into lives of liberalism, free thought and Unitarian church membership.

When we're not attempting to destroy the very foundations of American free enterprise by raising some of our own vegetables, we're going after the global free trade system by discussing ways to grow apples in our backyard, thus viciously denying our hard currency to desperate farmers in China and Chile.

We also enjoy quilting, raising African violets and collecting Lladro.

Well, actually two of the three items in this last enumeration of hobbies are not true. But it's up to you to penetrate the opaque Al-Qaeda-belonging depths of our twisted registered Democratic minds to figure out which.

BWAH-HAH-HAH-HAH-HAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

16. My lunatic lefty husband and I
live in the country, near a small farming community.

We own, and I mean OWN our house. The mortgage is paid. Sure, some things need repair, but we are not about to take out a home equity loan to fix things. They will get done in due time. How hippy-dippy of us! How lefty!

We garden. I work part-time as a teacher. My husband is a printer. We own some farm property that we rent out. Our three kids are grown. They all live in the big city, where they are little lefty fringers.

I drive a nine-year-old car. My husband has a newer, six-year-old pickup.

We have a dog and a bunch of lunatic fringe cats.

We are so far left that we even sit around and read books!

I drive a pick up, and enjoy NASCAR.

Love tailgate parties and cookouts with lots of good food.

I love to and am good at cooking.

Veteran of the Navy, divorced, teacher and football coach.

2 pierced ears and a large tattoo of Bettie Page in a thong.

I am on the leftist fringe.

And I love it!

I have a good job which I have had for more than 29 years. I drive an 8 year old subaru and my wife a 6 year old Mitsubishi Montero. I have more than 500 albums (vinyl) which I love. I am a far fringe lefty and my wife is a communist. I have a great life, make very good money, have a lot of time off. Read a lot of Chomsky, Franken and other political writers both light and heavy. I talk politics a lot at work ( a union job). Everyone should have a life as good as mine. I get five weeks vacation a year. I go to political sites and argue with conservatives for fun. I am not a dem but I love DU and vote for dems more than 95% of the time and have never voted for a Republican in my life, a string I dint expect to break anytime soon.

22. I live in a tract house in a suburb of Detroit
I go to church weekly and volunteer there as a greeter. I also take classes there during the week. I work a 40 hour week as a social worker. I spend my weekends cleaning my house, doing yard work, cooking and reading books.

I've never had an abortion, nor been promiscuous. I have pierced ears, but no other piercings. I don't have tattoos, either. I dress conservatively, and wear dresses frequently.

So that's my exciting liberal lifestyle.

I used to work in the sports/music event industry that raised money for charities in LA. I am now the wife of an artist, illustrator living in NC with a five year old daughter.

Subaru Legacy is our auto of choice and we do have an old beater station wagon to haul stuff like manure. And yardwork has become quite the focus now that we moved into an old home on an acre of land in Charlotte.

You and ms. uly sound alot like me and mr. blm. I like a beer every now and then and he likes a shot of whiskey or two. We both enjoy red wine with dinner about once a week.

I lift my glass to all lefties.

I'm a high school teacher. I like jazz, drinking, travel and yelling at traffic. I am on the "fringe" because I don't put up with any of this namby-pamby B.S. I see from the party when it comes to pleasing Bush and keeping Republicans from getting angry. I will never, ever vote for a candidate who supported the war in Iraq, nor will I ever vote for any of our two previous presidential candidates, who let their elections be stolen without a whimper of protest.

26. Fringe lefty here
I live in semi-rural Florida with my DH and two sons. DH is a high school math teacher, I am a freelance writer/editor. DS1 is in college and DS2 heading toward 4th grade. We have two cats, drink wine and take walks together.

I drive a Kia Sedona minivan, DH drives a 1992 Cavalier wagon and DS a '99 Ford Escort.

We spend our vacations hiking in the mountains of Georgia or North Carolina and go to church most Sundays. I teach Sunday school; DH is a coach.

Another wacky, out of the mainstream lifestyle!

31. Leftist fringe?
Edited on Thu Jun-01-06 07:25 AM by distantearlywarning
Straight, married, don't smoke, drink, or do any drugs. My husband and I earn more than the U.S. median income and live below our means. We make our own dinner every night and eat it together at the family dinner table. Neither of us has any tattoos, weird piercings, or strange hair color. We were good little consumers last year and bought a new car - my husband uses it to commute every day to his corporate America job out in the suburbs.

A few weeks ago we went to the baseball game and had a great time. And GO STEELERS! Football and baseball - the great American escapes. And oh yes, I watch American Idol.

If you saw either of us at the grocery store you would certainly never guess that either of us are commie pinko leftist dirtbag traitors who love Saddam and want the terrorists to win more than anything in the entire world. (Ok, that last part was sarcasm). Actually, we're so bland you probably wouldn't notice either of us at all.

My parents are also fairly anti-Bush, believe in peak oil, and are building a house "off the infrastructure" in the Mountain West (for when the economic collapse comes). If you saw them at the grocery store, you'd think they were even more normal than my husband and I. My mother looks exactly like what she was before she retired: a first grade teacher. My dad was a officer in the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam but still somehow ended up part of the leftist fringe (i.e., not one of the BushBots). Put them in Florida and they seem just like every other retiree.

Us radical leftists get more and more sneaky every day!

32. Uh oh. I think I may be the stereotype here....
I think I really AM "leftist fringe"! :D

My name is Kirsten. I'm 46 and never married, with three furry monsters instead of regular kids. I'm a native San Franciscan, I am a vegetarian, I have a few piercings and tatts, I drive a 1985 Honda Elite scooter, I am a proud second-generation "hag", wear red Chuck Taylor lowtops, meditate, swear like a sailor, and have sported a hot-pink mohawk back in the day.

With all that said, I don't (nor have I ever) drink, smoke, or do drugs. I listen to opera as well as punk. I am devoted to my family and have cared for for aging mother through many illnesses over the years. I am the person folks come to when they have a problem and need to talk it out. I am also the person folks call when it's 3:00am and their world is looking a little too bleak for them to handle. I am my neighborhood watch leader and I volunteer my time around the City for a wonderful organization called One Brick. My oh-so-wild weekends usually consist of me going to Tahoe to do much needed work on my Mom's house or to help with her garden. I do admit to yelling "Fuck Bush!" on the phone when talking to my Mom, just in case the NSA is listening in.

And I'm the kind of "crazy fringe leftist" who think it's criminal we are in Iraq at all and that we are not in Dafur.
