Poll question: Would you refuse to go to Iraq if that was your job?!?
We know the CBS reporter is fighting for her life at a military hospital in Germany.

I was just thinking, if I were a network journalist, would I refuse to go because I have been so opposed to this war since day 1.

Or would I go to do stories about all of the suffering and help articulate what a crime this war is?

I have to hand it to many of the non-FOX News war reporters and camera people.....without them feeding home TV reports and video, this would be more of a secret Bush war fiasco than it already is.

Remember, you're a journalist:

5. Do you know if they are given a choice?
I really don't know. I do remember that Dan Rather was always proud to say he was always at the heart of the story, and manya times he was smack dab in the middle of the war...several of them!

I have a strange feeling that they ARE given a choice, and choose to goto a war zone "because THAT'S where the story is!" Every real dedicated reporter knows you always go to the story...no matter where it is or what's involved.

7. Yea, I'm pretty sure they are given a choice. However, TV News is
so competitive, I might be worried my boss would think, "hell, if cboy doesn't want to go, I'm gunna hire someone else (maybe even cheaper) who's not such a pussy and WILL go after the story.

10. I know. I voted I would go. But I was responding hypothetically to the
DU'er who was wondering whether journalists have a choice.

My point was even if a journalist didn't want to go for whatever reason, they probably would go out of fear they'd be replaced by a more aggressive journalist.

Brother, you're nothing but trouble primitive, aren't you?

"CHANGE MY VOTE!" -- "WHAT KIND OF A JOURNALIST ARE YOU?" Geeez!!! :eyes:

9. You can apply that logic to any profession, although most don't
require life risk. A sales manager who implememts a revolutionary new method is taking a risk. It his idea is successful, he'll benefit BIG TIME, if it fails, he'll be fired.

If a race car driver decides to take a risk of passing the leader of the race while going into a curve, he's taking a risk. If he succeeds to gain the lead, he;ll probably win the race, if he doesn't he could die!

In the reporter argument, I just see this as another risk...with potential big loss or big reward.
