The DNC 6 Point Plan for taking back America. discuss.
For more detailed information, visit http://www.dnc.org/agenda.html

1. Honest Leadership & Open Government
We will end the Republican culture of corruption & restore a government as good as the people it serves.

2. Real Security
We will protect Americans at home and lead the world by telling the truth to our troops, our citizens and our allies.

3. Energy Independence
We will create a cleaner and stronger America by reducing our dependence on foreign oil.

4. Economic Prosperity & Educational Excellence
We will create jobs that will stay in America by restoring opportunity and driving innovation.

5. A Health Care System that Works for Everyone
We will join 36 other industrialized nations by making sure everyone has access to affordable health care.

6. Retirement Security
We will ensure that a retirement with dignity is the right and expectation of every single American.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you agree/disagree with any of the points listed? Is this a good platform? Is it leaving anything out in your opinion?

As for my opinion, I think the DNC should make sure election fraud is included on the first point labeled "Honest Leadership & Open Government". Aside from that, I think this is a pretty solid message but since this is DU, I know many of you will disagree. ;)

I'm emailing the DNC today to say they need a print out flyer on their website with this information. If they have one already, I haven't been able to find it.

5. good point
I can't believe I over looked that obvious point. While we're at it, it would be good to have a promise to not start any more wars in the near future.

9. I think that would be a natural outgrowth of #1 --
since we went there based on lies, accepting of the truth would indicate immediate withdrawal, logically speaking.

13. This is an OUTLINE.
As much as I agree with you that we need to get our asses out of Iraq, if we start putting down every one of our collection of things we want, it becomes a GROCERY LIST (a long one), and that's that last thing we need. The Gingrich mob had 14 points, which could probably have been whittled to six.

2. How about not ordering people what to "discuss"?
That would be a really good start.

3. People have the word "discuss" in the subject all the time here
Jeez. I don't have a gun to your head over here. I'm just calling attention to the fact that the DNC HAS a 6 point plan and I thought a DU discussion about it would be cool.

12. Its funny ... I took the direct opposite from it ......
Its too specific. I'd rather see some really big, bold, broad vision things.

I'm not unhappy with these points, but I don't like the notion of 'plans' as campaign themes. One lays out a plan when one is ready to write legislation. And surely the more details such a plan, if used in a campaign, the easier it is for the other guy to parse, find some delcious turn of phrase, and use that to obfuscate the whole damned thing.

7. Good for bullet points , but needs more detail...
but it works for me as long as #1 includes honest elections, and #3 addresses global warming. Without those, the rest is meaningless.
As for Iraq, I would hope that #2 would cover that...
These bullet points are sort of a Rorsach (inkblot test) platform for everyone to project their own values and priorities onto...hope there's more to follow.

8. Looks good to me
They are short talking points, and there is something there for those who haven't decided if they are going to vote in November. Should bring some out to the polls who otherwise would be sitting on their hands.

10. These are all good points, but I would include something about
protecting the environment and addressing global warming and something about the U.S.'s stance with other countries.

11. sounds good, but too general
Always been my complaint.

I know we live in a sound bit world but when they say, "We will create a cleaner and stronger America by reducing our dependence on foreign oil," I want to know how.

When they say, "We will protect Americans at home and lead the world by telling the truth to our troops, our citizens and our allies," I say, "honesty is always the best policy but it won't protect us from those who want to kill us."

Don't think for a moment Democrats won't be pressed to give a few more details.

14. the devil is in the details ...
are these 6 points all good? of course they are ... no one actually campaigns for a "less honest leadership" ...

but the devil really is in the details ... our institutions have been poisoned by money ... if Democrats refuse to tell the truth, and this has to include the total imperialist corruption of our foreign policy, all the pretty words in the world about "open government" are meaningless ...

if Democrats fear they will be labeled as anti-American or anti-business and consequently play political games by refusing to out the corruption of our foreign policy by greedy corporations, their 6 point plan is meaningless ...

the plan, btw, is critically lacking in a standard for warfare ... is it acceptable to attack a country that has not attacked us? is it acceptable to destabilize a democratically elected government? is it acceptable to intervene militarily against the will of the UN when US security is not at issue? regardless of your views on these questions, failing to very clearly state the Party's positions is not an adequate platform ...

there are other glaring omissions from the 6 point plan ... for example, where is the Party's commitment to fight for full equality under the law for ALL Americans?

and our more than $8 TRILLION national debt is destroying the country and every program Democrats believe in ... where's our balanced budget plan? again, you can't talk about a strong economy and hide from the issue ... getting rid of bush's insane tax cut is only a start - we'll need much more than that ... will Democrats support deep cuts in "unnecessary military procurements"???

as a starting point, the 6 points listed are fine ... but the plan has to be real (i.e. it actually has to be able to make the country better) ... it also needs at least a few more points ... the "agenda" items listed on the DNC website are very inadequate thus far both in terms of scope and specificity ...
