When they say, "Stay the course", . . . |
|
. . . aren't they really saying, "We were wrong when we said that this would not turn into a quagmire."
I am just getting so sick of people who cannot take responsibility for their actions or their mistakes.

They're the "party of accountability", but they won't take responsibility for their failures/errors in Iraq.

be any better?
In the "it's a crappy situation, but we have to stick it out" use of the phrase. Of course. (Or is that a regionalism, and makes no sense to anybody not from where I grew up?)
Personally, I'd prefer it. There are a lot more puns and word play for 'stick it out' than 'stay the course.'
"Hang in there" doesn't have quite the same entertainment value.

12. No. That implies that somehow we agree with, or reinforce, "stay the |
|
course."
And we DON'T, do we?
I'm not reaffirming ANYTHING they're up to, because I think their ideas couldn't be more wrong, and we have the results to prove it.
It's good that you're thinking, though. But the buzzphrases and slogans we come up with shouldn't be in any way reinforcing their point. It should be making OURS. And ours should be oppositional.

6. Really, they're just saying "We're Satisfied with things as they are". |
|
And, "We don't have any idea what else to do, but we sure as hell won't admit that and we won't consider anything proposed by or pleasing to Democrats--if only out of spite!".

9. "Stay the Course" was the most deadly phrase spoken during Vietnam War |
|
When Johnson said 'stay the course', the was the beginning of the end for political support for the war in Vietnam. When his Cabinet parroted that phrase, "stay the course", people became less and less supportive. Because when the politicians have to remind the citizenry that we need to 'stay the course', that means the policy and decisions are in deep trouble. It's just a matter of time.

11. How 'bout "Stay and Die"? I heard a caller on the Ed Schultz show |
|
suggest that one. "Stay and Die."
I think it's a good retort for all those nice, convenient, cutesy little slogans the bad guys always want to fall back on. Three-word jobs like "stay the course" and "cut and run." Okay, let's throw OUR three-syllables at 'em. "STAY AND DIE." "SITTING DUCKS." And another from mid-thread: "Stay the course?" "STRAIGHT TO HELL!" Or "OFF A CLIFF."
What is EQUALLY important here, too, is not SIMPLY the three-word or three-syllable choices, but their CONSTANT USE. WE, TOO, have to "kind of catapult the propaganda." By repeating, repeating, repeating. Almost to the point of mindlessness. We have to have that on the tips of our tongues, ready to come out at any minute, to blunt any of the mindless sloganeering of the enemy. Gotta pound it in, the same exact way they've been doing.

How much chance is there that our slogans will make it into the mainstream?
You may have noticed, I am frustrated.
