Only one candidate has had a Bin Laden relative put under arrest: JK!
Edited on Wed Feb-04-04 07:31 PM by RegenerationMan
John Kerry gave the report on the BCCI Scandal that got Khalid Bin Mahfouz a $225 million fine and house arrest and closed the bank in 1991.

So there is at least one candidate who has already prosecuted an Osama Bin Laden relative and George W. Bush Harken investor (Bin Mahfouz gave Harken a $20 million loan so Smirky could pump and dump the stock in '86).

IMAGINE PRESIDENT KERRY!!

16. thanks
john kerry has done a lot he deserves credit for. jfk is too closely associated with someone else so it's better for us to call kerry jk to differentiate even though they are really his initials and he has a lot in common with the president.

3. Your headline dishonors one great man
and that picture (which is fake, BTW) dishonors another.

John Kerry is not fit to be compared with John Fitzgerald Kennedy or John Winston Ono Lennon.

5. The picture is not fake
It was taken at a 1970 anti-war protest where Kerry introduced Lennon and HANGS ON KERRY'S SENATE OFFICE WALL. You're not suggesting Kerry lies when he shows visitors that photo on his wall are you?

(It was also on his Web site)

And Kerry would get us out as fast of Iraq as fast as Dean or anyone else could IMHO.

6. Okay, I have to ask...
why you think the photo is fake.
The original hangs across the room from my desk.

unlike a lot of things bandied about on this site.

Maybe Dean had his picture taken with Jean Claude Killy or Suzy Chaffee?

When Kerry was organizing anti-Vietnam protests he met Lennon.

24. Nice smear. The photo is real. Kerry spoke at the same protest.
Kerry said he did not know Lennon personally, but they did share the same platform at one anti-war rally.

BTW: What was Dean doing then? Hitting the moguls?

9. House arrest? Give me a break.
1991? This is not after September 11, which would considerably up the ante.

Good for Kerry, but house arrest is a joke in many cases. And please let us know who else worked on the report, not just who "gave" the report.

As for the pic with John Lennon, was this about the same time when Lennon was being dissed as a Communist by the establishment and the conservatives? I recall a local member of the National Guard carrying on about the song, "Imagine." "It's Communist, I tell you," he yelled, "Just listen to the words!"

I gave him a dirty look and walked away.

12. Considering the power of Bin Mahfouz in Saudi Arabia even that is
pretty amazing. Don't forget that Kerry had to fight the Bushies first in Iran Contra and then the BCCI Scandal and Baker and the rest fought him every step of the way.

The real victory was closing down the BCCI bank! No one thought that could be done or the Saudis stopped. Don't forget the Saudis always threaten to cut off the oil or withdraw their US bank deposits.

15. Regarding the relation to bin Laden:
This article casts significant doubt on Khalid Bin Mahfouz being a bin Laden relative:

17. No it doesn't..it's because of GB's libel laws where the burden of proof
rests with the authir to prove that it's true.

19. I see. The paper forks over thousands of pounds and issues a
public disclaimer, because it didn't want to expend the time to prove a fact.

Perhaps you can tell us if the libel laws are the same in Ireland:

(different publication)

BTW, did you know that the oft quoted James Woolsey denies he made the claim of the Bin Mahfouz - bin Laden marriage.

I am also curious as to how the fact of this marriage was established.

23. Could you elaborate on the process by which
the committee report, in which Sen. Kerry had a hand, led to the indictment of Khalid Bin Mahfouz?

At best, all we have here is a "post hoc, propter hoc" situation.

25. Got your link right here!
You can read Kerry's report.

http://www.fas.org/irp/congress/1992_rpt/bcci/

And below is a link to a excellent resource culling from the literature information documenting how Poppy Bush's Justice Department did not pursue the matter, nor did Clinton's. Maybe the oil is pretty important or else they are all in it up to their sweaty Octopus armpits.

One thing's for sure: Kerry was pretty much ALL alone in the Senate going after the BFEE.
