HI-Sen: Akaka 51%, Case 40%

No plans by Akaka to run as an independent against the more centrist Case.
No one condemning Case supporters as trying to make "liberals feel unwelcome in the party."
No one lamenting that the money on this primary could be better spent defeating Republicans.

I guess it depends on how liberal the challenger is....

1. Isn't Case typical DLC?
Now Akaka has pissed me off with some of his votes, but I'm not about to advocate a DLC replacement

5. A bit too close for comfort
Case's support of Lieberman for president, the patriot act and the insistence on continuing the illegal occupation of Iraq, are some warning signals that it would be better to keep Akaka.

2. This race has had little to no media attention
BTW, does Hawaii have an open or closed primary?

3. no idea
even though I'd probably be more in line with Akaka, I am fine with this primary. It will force the Senator to go back to his state and prove his relevance. It will be good for the party.

4. I'm fine with it, but Case doesn't have anything to stand on
His only real argument for why he should get the nomination is that Akaka is too old and probably going to have to retire in six years. Case should've waited until Inouye retires if he wanted a senate seat.

6. Get a load of the race for Case's House seat
http://www.thegreenpapers.com/G06/HI.phtml

14 contenders, wow.

I notice Neil Abercrombie has a primary challenger, but then Neil has been right there with Kucinich at every occasion on ending the war, so I'm not bothered about that one

8. your answer

a registered Republican can choose to pick up the Democratic ballot instead of picking up the Republican ballot, but will be able to vote only on the Democratic ballot.

Note, I have absolutely no clue who is going to win the nomination for Ed Case's seat. I would like to see a woman in there considering all the great things Patsy Mink has done for women while serving in that seat.
