This day in history, 2005: Iraq Signs Military Pact with Iran
I was just cleaning out old email files and this one was very interesting to re-read. Especially the part about the 100 parliament members petitioning us to leave THEN.

Headlines : International
Iraq Signs Military Pact with Iran
Thu, 7 Jul 2005 22:11:20 -0700Summary:

Here’s an update: The “democratically elected” government of Iraq, much-ballyhooed by the Bush adminstration and its toadies, has signed an agreement of military cooperation with current Bush public enemy number one, Iran.

In other news, 100 “democratically elected” members of the Iraqi parliament have signed a petition demanding that the US withdraw its forces from Iraq immediately.

By Neil MacDonald in Baghdad and Najmeh Bozorgmehr in Tehran
Republished from Financial Times

Iraq signs a pact in Tehran agreeing to accept Iranian military training and other cooperation.

Former foes Iraq and Iran announced “a new chapter” in their relations on Thursday, including cross-border military co-operation, dismissing US concerns about Iranian regional meddling.

On his first official visit to Tehran, Iraqi minister of defence Saadoun al-Dulaimi asserted his country’s sovereign right to seek help from wherever it sees fit in rebuilding its defence capabilities.

“Nobody can dictate to Iraq its relations with other countries,” Mr Dulaimi said in a joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart, Admiral Ali Shamkhani.

The two ministers said that a military co-operation agreement, now in the preparation, would include Iranian help with training and upgrading Iraq’s reconstituted armed forces, a process so far overseen by US and coalition advisers.

Wonder if Dulaima, Iraq Minister of Defense, still holds that position? Isn't Iran Shiite? Why wouldn't the Iraqi Shiite share the same interests and possibly military coordination with Iran? Like bush never thought of that when he decided to invade. Like none of us considered that along with some in the military & Pentagon when we started this adventure. Wiser minds were disregarded. PNACER's had their road map and are sticking to it, damn the possible consequences.

Edit: Just read the article and saw that Dulaima is/was Sunni. What ever happened to that agreement that Iran would help train Iraqi troops? Could it be that is what is happening to Iraq now with all the bombings of citizens, military and govt.? No wonder bush wants to bomb Iran.

3. Current Defence Min is Sunni +former general in the army of Saddam Hussein
Lt. Gen. Abdul Qadir Mohammed Jassim Obeidi al-Mifarji' is the Defence Minister of Iraq in the Council of Ministers of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.

He was born in Ramadi and is a Sunni Arab former general in the army of Saddam Hussein. He told the Council of Representatives that he had been demoted after opposing the 1990 invasion of Kuwait and was sentenced to seven years jail in 1994. In 2003, he joined the new Iraqi army, serving first as the commander of the operations room and then commander of military operations in western Iraq. Prior to his appointment as Minister on 8 June 2006, he was commander of the infantry commando units.

During his confirmation hearing in the Council of Representatives one Assembly member accused him of being a "war criminal in a military campaign against the city of Fallujah".

He is not affiliated to any political party but his appointment was strongly backed by the Sunni Arab-led Iraqi Accord Front.

6. **PETITION AGAINST MILITARY ACTION AGAINST IRAN**

It is with grave concern that I observe the growing threat of a new U.S. war--this time against the people of Iran.

For a collection of articles and resources on this subject you can visit this link: http://reseaudesign.com/research/iran/iran_summery.html

I'm starting up a petition which I will be sending out to as many members of Congress as possible. I'm asking for help to get this signed by as many people, possible in the next month. Send it to as many people you can.

thanks,
J-shmoe
