Dean Out Front In California Delegate Count !!!
Now that I have your attention...

Link: http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2004/primaries/pages/scorecard/index.html

Is this because of internet\absentee voting?

Are these delegates that get to commit\pledge without a primary occuring?

Can somebody PLEASE explain this to me???

I was looking for the final results of the OK Primary. Edwards site has him tieing (sp?) Clark last night. Pretty close to a tie in count, definite tie in percentage, but not a tie in delegates. Made me wonder, so I started looking around and found that Dean has over three times as many CA delegates as Kerry (so far), and wondered what the hell is goin on!!!

BTW - Does this have ANY meaning for Dean and the March 2nd CA Primary???

Or should I just have another bong hit, er... Martini???

:hi:

2. those are super-delegates, WillyT
You know those 'undeclared' endorser types like Congress critters. Since they aren't pledged due to primary outcomes, they are free to change their mind and endorse someone else if the mood takes them.

3. These delegates are unpledged delegates.

Probably from state officials who endorsed him. They can go for any candidate they wish. Delegates earned by votes from primaries or caucuses are pledged to the candidates who earn them, on first ballot.

4. Thanks Guys, But...
On Dean's site there is a section 'Where You Can Vote Now', or something like that. If one sends in a ballot early, it's an absentee, right? And they usually aren't counted til the day of the election, or even after, no?

I guess I'm asking if there is anyplace that will take a vote cast early and actually COUNT it towards that candidates tally. Or is it just a matter of locking up a vote that will be tallied later?

Pardon my ignorance here, just wondering.

5. They won't be counting any votes early.
Even if they did they could not award any delegates because delegates are awarded according to percentages won and they would not know until all votes are counted how many people are going to vote. I think that is what you are asking about.

6. He's losing this state big time. Latest poll has Kerry at 49%
Dean doesn't have a chance. Edwards numbers are coming up.

8. The Channel 7 news kept running it last night.
It looks really good for Kerry out here. Also, I think some of the party chairmen are working on his campaign.

10. California has yet to have it's primary
those are super delegates and subject to change withut notice.

I'd ignore super delegates till summer.

11. Delegate counts
Super delegates are "Pledged" delegates. However, they can change at the convention. Also, there are "undecided" delegates that come from primaries or caucus already held. Dean has picked up some of those "undecided" as they have publically pledged. Super Delegates are not from endorsements necessarily.
