Only a Blogger
Edited on Fri Jul-07-06 08:12 PM by MissWaverly
Just heard a interesting comment by a James Bennet, the new editor of The Atlantic. He was
a guest on PBS Washington Week. A question was asked about the role of the bloggers. He
said that its hard to determine but there is very little original thought in the blogosphere and that most of it is a recap.

Now I am a blogger and Dr. Dean wrote me a letter today. "Thanks to your generous monthly support the Democratic Party is growing stronger, mobilizing in every state in the nation and on course to hand President Bush and the Republicans a big defeat in the 2006 elections. Thanks to you, the Democratic Party is energized like never before. And with so much at stake for our nation in this year's elections, I am grateful there are members like you who are determined to win in 2006 and get America back on track because you are one of our Party's most committed members..." Well, that's pretty high praise, after all I am only a BLOGGER!

1. Bennet
and others really don't understand the blogosphere - and as an unknown force, it's frightens them. They recognize that when the common folk have information and fellowship at their fingertips, they cannot be so easily manipulated by the 'top tier'.

Frankly, it pleases me to see the 'establishment' so unsettled.

2. well, it was mentioned that Hiliary is hiring a blog consultant

Forgot to mention that David Brooks attacked Daily Kos on PBS The News Hour with Jim Lehrer
tonight. I think he described them as "vicious" and he said that Leading Dems hate them but
they are afraid to get in their "crosshairs"

3. "very little original thought in the blogosphere"
Edited on Fri Jul-07-06 08:25 PM by welshTerrier2
Mr. Bennet failed to point out that there is no original thought coming from the media whores on TV ...

Washington Week used to be a real show before they started using puppets and cartoon characters ... hey, that's not bad ... i thought it up all by myself ...

Mr. Bennet would be better served commenting on the mass media's "goosestep to war" ... Helen Thomas, one of a dying breed, has written a whole book about the press ... what Mr. Bennet fails to recognize is that the "blogosphere" is a reaction to his own profession's inadequacies ... he also fails to recognize that giving every online citizen more access to be heard is a very positive development ...

4. well, it's true we spend time getting the word out
stories that would have died a quick death on the back page or Friday news dump, but the
most powerful part of this is the news from everybody. The most powerful things I read
here was how all the old people had to stay in their room all day when George Bush visited
their nursing home for a photo op. The other thing that I read here that really got to me
was the GI who said that all he had to eat every day was either 2 cold hot dogs with no bread
or 1 frozen pizza courtesy of Halliburton.
