Does anyone listen to Paul Harvey, by chance? |
|
I guess the old gargoyle is still wasting oxygen, because I happened to hear hin Wednesday in the car. He was droning on about how great things are, then said, "And wait until Friday, when the June jobs report shows that the rapidly growing economy created 380,000 new jobs last month".
Well, it turns out that he was off by 250,000 jobs, or about 68%. Does anyone still listen to this crackpot? Does anyone call him on the phone and laugh at him after such a ridiculous claim? What happens to drooling old wingers who won't leave the airwaves?

1. Yeah, he's still out there at lunchtime |
|
I hadn't heard him for decades and a local radio channel started carrying him. His "Good day" is now pretty weak.
He's just another right winger who thinks all would be fine if women didn't work, Americans never disagreed with their government, and we just hung in there waiting for better times.
He has no idea of reality.

2. Not unless I have the AM station on at 11:45am, then I quickly |
|
...switch to another station. Paul Harvey is a relic, always sensationalizing the mundane and selecting the dullest events to ridicule like some school ground show-off drawing attention to his own superiority. Throw in some cloaked racism whenever the opportunity presents itself and that is the success formula for Paul Harvey news. Sorry, Paul Harvey has carried over into the wrong century. He should be marching backward into time.

3. Does he still segue into the commercials so that you can't really tell |
|
he is selling air conditioners or "Adam the younger" (whatever that was) computers instead of doing a news story? The guy was old & I mean really old in 1972.

Now that I think about it it was all unintentionally surreal, unlike Radio Free Oz that was intentionally surreal.

17. At least the old fossil always qualified the whole thing as |
|
"The Paul Harvey News", so there was no mistaking it as being "The News".
Back in the early 0's I would hear the guy after Michael Jackson's talk show on KABC in LA.

He also took over writing The Rest of the Story books, or at least wrote one of them. I guess I'm the only one here who actually likes Paul Harvey. I like his delivery and I always enjoy The Rest of the Story.

|
and his son, who sounds very much like him, fills in for him sometimes, if I'm not mistaken. We used to listen to him every day during the summer at lunch, but now I'm not home nearly as often so I can no longer claim to be an expert. I think he'd say anything you wanted for a nickel. And hey, he might be so senile by now, he'd say anything that was written on the script and have no idea what he just said was a huge load of BS.

23. Not only that, he is powerful. |
|
He owns quite a few small radio stations. He knows how to get contracts that allow him to spew his crap on the radio several times a day. People owe him. They don't cross him.
My father did some volunteer work at a Christian radio station about twenty years ago, before things got as bad as they are now. He got to know Harvey from that. At first, he liked him. Later, he found Harvey sinister and grasping, not unlike Pat Robertson.

32. Any degrees that Dumbya has from Ivy League schools ... |
|
are a benefit of white man's affirmative action, i.e., his rich, influential family donated money to the school(s), which gave him a free pass at those schools.
I'm surprised you even bring that up, given that it's a right-wing talking point that * is smart because he has Ivy degrees. Actually, are you sure you're on the right discussion board?

|
I call that shoving your head in the sand. If someone in the opposition party has done something good, it should not be looked down upon. That kind of behavior increases the rancor and makes it difficult to get anything accomplished in government. Things were a lot more civil on both sides 20 years ago, and now they have deteriorated to the point where nothing gets done in Washington.

|
Edited on Mon Jul-10-06 10:56 AM by Bandit
Remember when every single Republican stood up and said Clinton's first budget would bankrupt America. That is was impossible to raise taxes on the wealthy without destroying the American economy. America went on to experience the greatest economic expansion in history and I have never heard anyone bring up how absolutely incorrect and incompetent Republicans were then and are today.

I'll sometimes stay in bed listening to the news but as soon as Paul Harvey comes on I leap out and dash to the other side of the room to turn off the radio. I think he's the otherwise moderate-to-leftish station's concession to fair and balanced.
Isn't he like 149 years old now? He sounded old and cranky when I first heard him in 1970.
