Lieberman makes it personal
There is an excellent diary on DKos http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2006/7/7/22329/48111 decrying the fact that attacks on Joe have become so personal but explaining how he has become a symbol of everything that is wrong with the party:

1. Phony bipartisanship
2. Ineffective messaging
3. Abandonment of the base
4. Refusal to get tough and fight
5. Lack of differentiation
6. Elitism

The diary itself is a good read--including the comments--and it's getting lost in the shuffle over there.

Read a couple of good comments on other sites about how it is Joe who is ensuring that the primary won't mean anything. Hopefully it means that his luke-warm supporters will just stay home, knowing that they only have to vote in the general election. In an argument about about the small number of participants in the primary, one person pointed out that 78% of the registered voters in CT are still eligible to vote. It's too late for Republicans to change their registrations but unaffiliated voters can register with the party up until noon on 8/7. If Joe thinks the independents will support him, he should be mounting a campaign to get the unaffiliated to register in the party to vote for him

1. absolutely superb article and summation as to why their is such ire
Edited on Sat Jul-08-06 09:05 AM by Douglas Carpenter
this was a great quote from the article:

"if he'd gone after Bush for lying about Iraq the way he went after Clinton for lying about Monica, this primary challenge probably wouldn't be happening. And if he hadn't undermined Al Gore in Florida, he might be looking at his sixth year as Vice-President today"
