2. It's definitely worth a look. |

Eisenhower's words about a non military leader and the military industrial complex have proven prophetic.
I also wonder how many Americans feel as the retired cop does when he figured out the invasion of Iraq was based on lies and how it changed his opinion of the president and the presidency.

5. I fear the answer to your question |

"I also wonder how many Americans feel as the retired cop does when he figured out the invasion of Iraq was based on lies and how it changed his opinion of the president and the presidency."
I do know the answer to this question: not enough.
What may bother me the most is the comment by Richard Clarke about how the country isn't going back to what it was after the neocons are gone, because we are no longer the people that we once were. I have had a nagging feeling along these lines for quite some time now. So many people greet each revelation about government deception and military atrocities with indifference, that we can't be the same people who once stood for honesty, decency, and self determination in a democratic system of government. Many have embraced American imperialism and the notion that we are victimized.
The forces of darkness are wining in this country and it's so damned depressing... I think that is why Hunter S. Thompson killed himself.

a lot of people still look at the presidency as the retired cop in the film did. IIRC he said, and I paraphrase, "When the president says something, it's the truth". I think most folks want to believe in their leaders. It's just human nature.
There is also the sector who still believe that Saddam was involved in 9/11. One local Right Wing talking head came out and said as much after Zarchawi's death. I tried to call in to challenge his statement with no luck. The lack of truthful reporting by the RW talking heads and the failure of corporate media to report the real story also add to this.
I have hope that your belief that its not going to change is incorrect. I fear that if your scenario plays out, it is the end of the Republic. Things will stay the same if the other side is not challenged. People need to get informed and debate with those who use misinformation, deception and slogans and sound bytes.
What's the saying? "All that is needed for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing" Don't get depressed, get even!

8. For those of us who can't view this until later, |

what did Eisenhower say about a non-military leader? As a Clarkie, I'm very well aware of what he said about the military industrial complex because Eisenhower's beliefs are shared by Wes Clark.
