Bush plans on using his first veto ever on the stem cell bill authored by DeGette of Denver.
Instead he sends Rove to CO to send threats that he will veto the bill. Typical cowardly response from George.
http://www.denverpost.com/nationworld/ci_4036855Washington - President Bush rebuffed Rep. Diana DeGette's request for a meeting on her pending stem cell bill, one day after presidential adviser Karl Rove told The Denver Post that the president would veto the legislation if it is passed by the Senate.
“Although the president would appreciate meeting with you, we are unable to accommodate your request. Thank you for understanding,” the White House wrote in a four-sentence letter DeGette received today. The letter did not explain why Bush declined the meeting.
The bill, which DeGette, D-Denver, co-sponsored with Rep. Mike Castle, R-Del., was passed by the House last year. It would overturn President Bush's 2001 stem cell policy forbidding the use of federal funds to harvest stem cells that destroy an embryo.
"It's downright insulting that (Bush) sent his head political advisor to my hometown with a veto threat," said DeGette. "This issue is too important to become part of Karl Rove's cynical electoral strategy."
