Santorum Sticks By Drug Companies
Wow. He must be really desperate for drug-company cash, given that lifting the reimportation ban on drugs from Canada is wildly popular with the people he's supposed to represent. (Polls in the 60s, 70s, or higher, I believe. Republican free trade? Not for us "little people.") Could Santorum already be looking past his likely loss in the Senate race and ahead to a career as a lobbyist?

The Senate voted 68-32 today to lift the ban. (Specter voted Yes on lifting the ban.) The national AP says it will probably come out of the bill in conference with the House, but without this step, the end-the-ban provision wouldn't even have a chance. The full roll call is here.

AP also put out a more PA-focused article Tuesday evening, which includes the following:

"I believe individuals ought to have access to less expensive pharmaceutical supplies provided they are safe as determined by FDA," Specter said.

... But Republican leaders including Santorum vociferously opposed the plan for fear, they said, that the drugs could be unsafe for consumers — or even present a terror risk. Santorum said in a statement that importing the drugs could endanger the lives of Americans. He said Canada "has publicly stated on numerous occasions that it cannot guarantee the safety of pharmaceuticals exported from, or through, its borders to the United States."

1. Stick with it Rickey! The voters HATE the drug co's already, so
this will help OUR cause!

You know, what I'd really rather see the Dems propose is banning prescription ads from TV and radio! I don't think I've ever met anyone who liked them, and THAT might help reduce drug prices HERE so we wouldn't have to go to Canada for our drugs!

2. I feel that drugs should be available to
everyone at t fair price. If the ones from Canada are just as safe why not? Just because the us drug mfgs. are afraid of missing out on a few bucks. They make a fortune and never mind the bs about research. They get subsidies for that. We get dragged around by these gangsters and the repukes use the scare tactic. Notice that the administration is full of scarey stuff for us. Everything is be afraid.
