A Response from Sen. Bayh...he should just switch parties, like Lieberman
Here's what I wrote regarding his vote in the flag-burning amendment:

"You want to change the Constitution for this? Or are you trying to appeal to the Republicans, with an eye toward the future? I would prefer a leader who would fight for what the authors of the Constitution were all about...Freedom.

No, thanks. You just lost my vote."

Dear ______ :

Thank you for contacting me regarding a constitutional amendment to protect the American flag. I appreciate hearing your opinion on this matter.

As you may know, Senate Joint Resolution 12 was introduced in the Senate on April 14, 2005. This legislation would authorize Congress to prohibit the physical desecration of the flag of the United States . This is an important issue, and I understand how people have differences of opinion on it.

Thousands of veterans in Indiana and around the country have made the protection of the American flag their top priority. Out of respect for their unique sacrifices in service to our country and because it is the enduring symbol of our democracy, I support giving the flag special protection.

On June 27, 2006, I voted in support of S. J. Res. 12, which failed in the Senate by a vote of 66 to 34. Rest assured, I will keep your thoughts in mind should this matter be revisited during my term in Congress.

Whatever one's views on the merits of this issue, I strongly disagree with those who would use it as a wedge issue to divide Americans or to distract from progress on the other pressing issues facing our nation.

Again, thank you for contacting me. I hope the information I have provided is helpful. My website, http://bayh.senate.gov , can provide additional details about legislation and state projects and you can also sign up to receive my monthly e-newsletter, The Bayh Bulletin , by clicking on the link at the top of my homepage. I value your input and hope you will continue to keep me informed of the issues important to you.

Blah, blah, blah...

8. nobody died for a piece of cloth; they died for an ideal
Flag desecration laws are a form of idolatry and antithetical to the ideal that our vets died for. And whether Byah really doesn't realize this, or he is just pandering, either way his judgment is for shit. People are sick of democrats being defensive about patriotism. Idolatry is anti american. And if you don't have to balls the say then get fuck out of the way or join the Reps.

2. typical dlc-sponsored response
I grew up in Indiana when Birch was in the Senate. I don't think his daddy would be toooo happy w/ how his son is swaying w/ the winds.

5. The last time a Dem president won Indiana was 1964
According to the latest SurveyUSA poll, Bayh has positive approval from 67% of Indiana Democrats. So comparing Bayh to Lieberman isn't quite accurate.

Evan clings to the DLC positions as if it is a life vest rather than the DLC heavy anchor in truly deep water.:eyes:

7. translation: many people are retarded and don't understand the...
ideals this country was founded on.

To win their vote, I am making empty gestures about symbols that they can understand.

Don't hurt our team flag.

The side benefit of this is it costs essentially no money, unlike solving real problems, and if I win with enough retards votes, I can service my corporate masters without worrying about angry voters holding me accountable.

Isn't that nice?

Now put on your helmet before you go play in the yard, Corky.

11. I don't call for a purge myself...
However, just because they have a (D) after their name doesn't mean they should be above critism, if a Democrat supports something that is stupid/unconstitutional, then we should rightly critisize them for it, plain and simple.

13. I'm all for purging pathetic dlcentrist handlers.
There is no center issue here.

You either support the Constitution, or you are a far Righty. Period

Dem handlers need to learn that, and stop running scarred from every wedge issue Du Jour.

Freedom means just that, allowing those you oppose to co-exist in your realm.

14. To be honest, I think what we need to do is move the party...
as far left as possible, so far left that DLCers will either have to accede to our wishes, or leave completely. Instead of just actively trying to get rid of them. One way to do that is to NOT cave when they do or say stupid shit, like Hilary Clinton's position on Video Game censorship, as one example. Now, Lieberman is a totally different subject, he actively is trying to abandon the party for expediency sake, for selfish reasons, in his case, kicking him out is only doing us a favor, he crossed a line even many DLCers wouldn't touch, including HC.

15. LOL! My, someone has delusions of grandeur.....
"DLCers will either have to accede to our wishes, or leave completely"
Or ignore the lunatic fringe, like they do now.

Quick, all those who thought lots of Hoosiers were in favor of flag burning, raise your hands...if you can get them out of the straitjacket sleeves.

22. Benchley's been like this since the election
Why he blames the left when the left was locked out in the cold in the fall campaign is totally beyond us. Maybe Benchley thinks we'd have won if only Kerry had taken Clinton's advice and out gaybashed the GOP by endorsing the anti-gay marriage ballot measures. Never mind that nobody who voted for those would have voted for ANY Democratic presidential candidate no matter what.

12. When I said "like Lieberman"
I didn't mean they were alike. I meant that they should both just join the Republican Party.
It doesn't matter to me if Bayh believes what he wrote, or if he is just pandering.

Either way, I won't vote for him.

Hey dickwad ...... I'm a veteran. I think this is a load of bullshit of the smelliest order and is pure pandering. Flag desecration is a form of free speech ... just like money, for what that's worth. Freedom of speech is part of what i served to protect. So take that 'veterans' shit and shove it up your ass, you panderer.
