"Gore: So Hot Right Now"

Gore: So Hot Right Now

The Nation -- Who in their right mind thought Al Gore could become a fashion statement?

Yeah, neither did I. But on Boston's uber-chic Newbury Street and in New York's Soho, I've already spotted numerous hipsters sporting Marc Jacobs' new Al Gore fashion line. The recently-released Al Gore t-shirts, tote bags, and trucker hats are now available at all Marc Jacobs retail stores, and they're not even that expensive (at least by Jacobs standards).

My personal favorite is the red "Al, Save Us" tee (click on "special items" to see them). There's also an "Al For President" shirt.

Hipsters aren't the only ones who want him to run. Today AlterNet released the results of its online straw poll in which 13,000 participated. Gore blew away his opponents, with 35 percent of the vote; Feingold was next with 20 percent.

I'm still in the camp that believes Gore is best doing exactly what he's doing, raising hell outside of the Beltway. But there's no denying that his grassroots support is tremendous right now. Even in Soho.

1. He's best when he's tactless and totally honest.

6. I agree. I wonder if he would still be this way if he runs for Prez.
It would sure take care of the "wooden" (or whatever they said). He is relaxed and funny. Love it!

2. Politics vs board room action,
I haven't read much on Gore re: Apple's chucking of batteries into 3rd world landfills to leak and poison the local ecosystems... amongst other things...

Sounds like they're starting to do some real good, but there's a long way to go.

What bothers me is that with offshoring and everything related to it, someone thinks that nixing America will nix the world's resource usage. Not possible. It's only being shifted. To countries whose populations are FIVE TIMES THAT OF OURS. Energy usage to play a flippin' video game is only going to skyrocket too.

Fix the problems. Not shuffle the symptoms.

20. I must be getting old, what does fly and TIGHT mean?
Is it just an extension of cool or kewl?

9. I just checked the Marc Jacobs line and his clothes are ugly.
I can't imagine anyone buying them...except for Al Gore's shirt...which is great! Good for Al. Bet no one is talking about his brown tones now!

25. Truly. I wonder if Maureen Dowd is proud of herself.
She couldn't say enough snide, snarky, smug, shitty little put-downs about Gore and his "earth tones." In her own miniscule way, she helped bush steal it by tearing Gore down. As though he was eaten by ants. Ants like her. Proud of yourself, Maureen? Happy with what you helped create? Heckuva job, girlfriend.

13. Do you honestly think he could be elected?
I'm a bit torn. The main problem I have with Dems re-running against Repuglies is that during the original campaign the Republicans so thoroughly demonized the Dem in question in the minds of so many voters that they have been irreparably brainwashed into never even considering listening to someone like Gore.

16. I think so too.
He should pick up Edwards as his VP IMO. Edwards seemed quite charismatic and popular and, what's more, it would be difficult to call him inexperienced again.

15. I'm not so sure about that
There are numerous examples of politcians who have run for President, lost, and then come back for a big win later, Richard Nixon, John Quincy Adams, Tomas Jefferson, and Andrew Jackson for example.

19. He won 1/2 million more votes than Smirk at the time they demonized him
(And then there's that whole Florida thing... )

So the answer is of course he could win - - again.

23. By '08 most voters will be ready to elect Towelie Prez if he runs as Dem!
Edited on Fri Jul-14-06 10:31 PM by nam78_two
I think Gore is an awesome/awesome candidate buteven aside from that 8 years of hell would surely have changed a lot of minds?

I have to imagine that even for the reddest of the red, there will come a point when endless war, a toxic environment, escalating debt, a flailing economy, corruption in govt. etc. will matter more than 2 guys kissing....

22. I prefer to avoid the "save us" sentiment. He isn't a savior.
He is an extraordinary man, but I don't want to redraw him into mythical proportions and pin all my hopes on him because even Hercules and all the angels in heaven would have a hard time saving us right now, considering the mess we're in.

Al Gore 2008, now, I could go for that! :)
