This is a post I had been thinking about for years. I decided to post it this morning due to a picture I saw this morning. I had seen pictures like this one on different occasions, but just did not post about it. I will not post the picture, but will give a little description of the picture and why I am posting this post.
During President Bush's first term a retired Air Force officer wrote the book "Dereliction of Duty". On one of the occasions that he talked about his book he claimed that people could tell that the military hated Clinton due to the way the Marines saluted him as he entered and departed Marine One. He claimed that when Marines saluted Clinton upon his entering and departing of Marine One they were supposed to do so while facing him. However, the Marines would saluted Clinton with their backs facing Marine One. According to this retired Air Force officer the Marines were supposed to salute Clinton with their left shoulder parallel to Marine One. The only problem with this guy's point is that he seems to be wrong. If you look at pictures of President Bush getting on and off Marine One, even before his polls numbers collapsed Marines saluted Bush the same way they saluted Clinton. So either this retired Air Force officer is wrong or the Marines never respected President Bush. I do realize that both could be true. It is very possible that the retired Air Force officer is wrong and the Marines never respected President Bush. To see of picture of the salute just read the AP story "Poll: Americans Want Democrats in Power". According to the author of "Dereliction of Duty" the Marine should have been turned sideways.

1. I suspect Marine Guards are taught how to salute the CIC or any other |

superior officer as part of their training and any marine who deliberately did it incorrectly would find himself on the receiving end of a court martial and dishonorable discharge before he could find time to brag to his buddies about it.

room for a dissent of that magnitude in the military. It doesn't sound correct.

4. Yeah, I got the Clinton e-mail years ago. |
|
And lambasted the sender for insulting and degrading the Marines (replying to all).
No Marine would ignore protocol, no matter his personal beliefs.
