Here is what pisses me off about this whole Lebanon thing....
They just found their footing as a fledging democracy after decades of civil war and foreign occupation...

Israel expects the government in Beirut to be running full force when they are still debating how to meld Christians, Sunni's, Shi'ite and Catholics into a cohesive governing unit...

So two soldier get kidnapped and a couple get killed....

Obviously the government in Beirut had nothing to do with it...

Israel goes ballistic and basically sets back the Bush Administration's one claim, however fledging that claim may be, for success in a region dominated by totalitarian dictators...

What the fuck is wrong with these people...

This situation is like a bad "b" movie script...

LA invading San Diego because one member of a gang that kidnapped a few LA cops was from San Diego....

It really is all it is... A big fucking gang war....

2. Israel is way over the top in their response, but ...!!
Lebanon has been turning a blind eye toward the terrorist activities originating from within their borders. There comes a time when enough is enough. This is Lebanon's wake-up call. It could also be the bell tolling.

What a gd mess.

4. There's a big difference between "turning a blind eye to" and...
...being "unable to control" Hezbollah. The Lebanese government would love nothimg more than to get Hezbollah out of Lebanon completely. To imply that somehow this benefits the Lebanese- that they enjoy Hezbollah sometimes carrying out operations from their soil and collectively facing the wraith of Israel's sword, which spares neither soldiers nor civilians, is absurdist.

7. If you insist. However,
they are now paying the price for being so powerless. Israel has taken over for them, and it isn't pretty.

8. Isreal is a rather large part of the reason Lebonon has been on
her knees for several decades...

5. Israel needs to lose for once
Israel is like a 19 year old, with a bullet. Impervious to
danger and rich uncle (Sam), if I want to play with my
war toys, so be it.

What they and world needs is for Israel to lose at this game,
just once. Only then will they see that 'making nice' with
the neighbors makes human, common sense. Especially if the
neighborhood once belong to your neighbors hundreds of years
before the land was deeded out of holocaust remorse.

Whatever drove them to war over TWO frigging soldiers is
like trying to figure out G. Dubya. Or just maybe the chaos
is coordinated. Chaos long before the November elections,
anything to get Iraq off the front page.

11. Agreed
But it just wasn't Bush's definition of a fledgling democracy, and so he's going to turn a blind eye to the outrage.

12. I don't consider them to be a functioning democracy. The right to vote
is the end result of the liberalization of society.

Give a bunch of religious fanatics the right to vote and they, well, elect religious fanatics.
