Poll question: In regards to the pulling of the coffin ad (It's Super Secret!)
It has been suggested that this was some sort of long range super secret plan to get the video out there to the masses. (Look at all the downloads!)

Of course it has also been suggested by numerous DUers that this was another example of typical DC dlcentrist cut n run weak kneed nonsense we have seen before. (Hint; It's called a Durbin, for a reason) :banghead:

In the interest of fairness, a scientific DU poll. (It's a super secret kind of science too!) :hi:

1. Where's "both"?
Edited on Sat Jul-15-06 11:09 PM by ClassWarrior
I'm sure someone is trying to go viral with a powerful message, and someone else is experiencing cold feet. At least the cold-footers aren't stopping this kind of stuff before it gets out the door anymore.

NGU.

3. The ad was pulled by Democratic chicken hawks fearful of GOP chicken hawks
Too bad they didn't consult a Democratic war hero first, someone like Wes Clark for example, as FrenchieCat was kind enough to post:

Wes Clark - Flag Draped Coffins in Web Ad not Disrespectful to Soldiers!

He was asked the following questions by a blogger at Kos:

"I would like to ask you a question. Do you not think it hypocritical for Republicans or anyone to criticize the DCCC's use of a picture of flag draped coffins in a campaign video, given the fact that the Republicans have expliciting politicized the war and use it to win elections? Thanks! "

To which Wes responded....."Yes, it is hypocritical. It was the Republican's bad policies, and Bush's misguided leadership that created the circumstances in which our soldiers and Marines are dying. These pictures are not disrespectful - at least, not of the men and women who sacrificed. They simply remind the viewers of the cost of Bush's mistaken policies. And hopefully, they help voters understand that the Administration which bungled all this should be held accountable!"

Has there been any official response from them about why the ad was pulled or if it will be reinstated?

6. To my knowledge Rahm has not spoken on it yet.
A spokesman (Burton?) prattled on about moving the website project in a new direction, or some such nonsense.

13. The capitulation is starting already. We'll have it polished to total
mealy-mouthed self-immolating perfection by then. The GOP will fight an extremely filthy campaign in contrast. The corporate media will eat it up and help them at every expense.

11. Done and rated.
There are too many freetards there throwing the "C" word (Clinton)around. They are, however, getting their asses handed to them by the AWB's (Americans With Brains).

17. Make it three
That commericial is all over the internet and in fact, I found several copies of it over on YouTube.

What better way to get the attention of the public then to make it dramatic. It's purpose is served - they knew the controversy before the ad was posted and it definately sparked attention

22. You think the content will be remembered over the capitulation?
Take Durbin, nothing he said was truly controversial, in fact most, if not all of it has been revealed to be true in the time period since.
Will that episode be remembered for being a true statement, or will it be remembered for having given birth to the new pop/wonk culture catch phrase "Pulling a Durbin"?

And, lest anyone think that term is only getting airplay on far left, progreeeeessisive, leftist, loonie left, (whatever the right of center hate-phrase of the day is) websites, I first heard that phrase on the campaign trail here in the first District of Iowa.

20. I think it's a bit of both...no downside either way
I think they put this up knowing they may eventually have to take it down...

They put it up hoping it would be out there for a while, which it was...and they knew if they did have to take it down, the publicity would insure it got a wide audience.

There was no downside in trying!

24. I suppose...
They felt it was better to take it down than cause problems for candidates in southern, pro-military districts.

I personally saw nothing wrong with the ad. None of the deceased soldiers was identified (which would have been inappropriate), and it showed what a f*cked up mess Bush has created.

But it probably is not worth making a federal case about this close to the election.
