1. "Breaking News" has become just another marketing term. |
|
Someone pointed this out a couple of days ago, and it sounds about right to me.

3. What it used to mean: This crap JUST hit the fan!!!! |
|
What it means now: We've only run this story five or ten times so far in this news cycle.

Thanks for watching CNN for me--I got rid of my dish and refuse to watch regular news.

5. I think it's just an excuse for them to play the breaking news jingle |
|
You know the one, "Daa daaaa.. da de doo de deee".. It used to get my attention right away, but they've cried wolf about 1000 times too many.
It's all about marketing and drawing your eyes to the screen.

8. "what you don't know can kill you! news at 11!" |
|
the local news is the worst. they have these insanely sensationalistic teasers for a story that they KEEP pumping even during the program. "coming up next, what's in everyone's refrigerator that can kill you!!"
of course, the actual story doesn't run until 11:26, and it's always a 20 second let-down, e.g., "don't drink the freon coolant in your refrigerator, it's toxic!"

9. Seen the one "What can kill you and you eat it every day!!!!" |
|
So you stay up to find out 3 people died when they were in their 90s from eating this whatever it was every day of their life.

10. right, they finally choked on it or whatever. |
|
local news is, sadly, useless.
especially because it SHOULD be so highly relevant.

|
It's really short for "Neck Breaking News"
