Do they make a detector for that?
Edited on Sun Jul-16-06 07:01 PM by welshTerrier2
a couple of days ago, a guy came to my house to tune-up my oil burner ... we started talking about smoke detectors and also about carbon monoxide detectors that are now mandatory in my State ...

after he left, i got to thinking about detectors in general ... i'm sure smoke detectors and CO detectors and even radon detectors do a great job protecting us from some of the dangers we face ...

it wasn't long before i realized that many of the greatest dangers could use detectors of their own ...

for example:
is there a detector that could, perhaps, be built into TV's that would sound an alarm everytime the corporate-controlled media start spewing their bullshit?

or how about a detector what would go off everytime the Congress vetoes a "living wage" but spends billions upon billions funding the military-industrial complex?

or maybe a highly specialized detector that would go off when anyone in the administration uses the phrase "bring it on" ...

or how about one that makes a screeching sound everytime the national debt increases another hundred million or so?

and we certainly could use one to alert us that the all-war-all-timers in Washington are on the verge of starting another war ... probably never get any sleep at all if we had one of those ...

and we better get some kind of technology into our homes that could act as sort of a doomsday clock regarding global warming ... if Gore is right, it should be set for about 2016 ...

and maybe some kind of poverty and homelessness detector ... maybe it could give a real-time read out of how many people slept on the street last night in a nearby city ...

well, there are probably dozens of other detectors you could envision ...

i just went over to the Wal-Mart website to see if they had any of these detectors available for sale ... nope; nothing so far ... guess i'll just keep checking ...

3. it would make a great political ad ...
i could see a family sitting down to dinner when suddenly one of the detectors goes off ...

the husband says: "i'll get it, honey"
the wife asks: "which one was that?"
husband: "global warming, dear"

they start to talk to the kids about school when there goes another one ...

wife: "oops ... my turn"
husband: "which one now?"
wife: "MSNBC hyping war with Iraq - told you not to watch that station"

"so, do you have homework, kids?:

husband: "yikes - this is ridiculous"
wife: "can we turn them off? - this is getting out of hand"
husband: "we need them to warn us, dear - the only way to turn them off is to vote the neo-cons out of office!"

Reminds me of '1984'. You couldn't turn the damned things off!
And that would be a creative ad!

4. those detectors would sound like a constant klaxon going off in your ear..
hour after hour, day after day. Soon we would be a nation of the deaf. I would suggest we already are a nation of the deaf.
