"She's never been married"
Edited on Sun Jul-16-06 11:53 PM by DesertRat
Republican gubernatorial candidates criticize (Arizona) Democratic Gov. Janet Napolitano's record on subjects ranging from immigration and taxes to education and forest health.

Gary Tupper and Mike Harris, both of whom have children, separately cited Napolitano's marital status - she's single - and the fact that she hasn't had children when answering questions during a Thursday evening forum sponsored by several Republican groups.

Later, when answering a question about a proposed ballot measure on marriage, Harris voiced his support for the initiative and then raised Napolitano's background.
"She's never been married. She's never had children. I don't think she ever will," he said of Napolitano, who has so far declined to take a position on the marriage amendment.

1. "The Dragon and the Pink Lady"
Although I haven't read it in years, that's the book the seems to pop up on my relativitly radar in these situations.

Should her sex, sexual orientation, or status as a parent matter? No.

Will they? Of course. It's Republicans: what else could you expect from them?

asking voters if it would bother them if Napolitano was a lesbian?

at the University of Arizona.

"Right-wing pundit Ann Coulter falsely accused an Arizona county attorney of anti-conservative bias for dismissing charges against two men who allegedly threw pies at her during an October 2004 speech. In fact, the blame lies with Coulter herself; the charges were dropped because neither she nor the arresting officer appeared for the scheduled trial."

28. Same here
I've been here a long time too (37 years). Bruce Babbitt was also a very good governor who served for 9 years.
The Repubs in this state will try anything to defame Janet. Attacking her for not being married or having children is ridiculous. Do they say the same thing about Condi Rice?

an unwed mother or had an abortion or two that fact would validate her in the eyes of her opponent . . . . ? (Dripping sarcasm)

Condoleeza Rice is Napolitano's age and has never been married or had children. They don't attack her for it, so far as I know.

This has got to stop -- this "if the Democrats do it, it's a sin, but if the Republicans do it, it's a pass" bullsh*t. We've got to be able to point out the hypocritical nature of these attacks ina way that ALL of America is able to see, or it'll be "God/Guns/Gays" wedge-issue elections, ad infinitum, and a one-Party America for sure.

21. Hey, We in Arizona have had married with children......Republicans.
They were Republican Governors and they proved to be bad not only for Arizona but also for the children of Arizona.

Seems this childless, unmarried Governor knows more about the needs of children and the working men and women of Arizona then the CON's who are only good with sound-bytes and slashing any and all programs that benefit children and families.

AZ Senate President, Ken Bennett didn't do a very good job as a father, raising a son who stuck broomsticks and flashlights up boy's asses!

30. Neither have Coulter or Ingraham. Sen. Dole never had children.
Does that make them gay or bad? No, of course not. They are vile for many other reasons: mostly for their greed and hypocrisy.
