Ten thousands demonstrate in Syria today:

17 July 2006

DAMASCUS - Tens of thousands of Syrians took to the country’s streets on Monday in a show of support for the Lebanese group Hezbollah and embattled Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who is coming under fire over his country’s support for the militant group.

Thousands marched through the centre of the capital Damascus chanting slogans in support of Assad and Hezbollah chief Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah who has been targeted in Israeli airstrikes on his home and offices.

She urged the Hezbollah leader to step up rocket attacks against Israel and called on the international community to come to Lebanon’s rescue.

1. and with Israel detaining Aljeezera manager
this should escalate to new levels

tough sitution for Israel, they must defend their borders but keep the passions of the Arab street at bay, me thinks they are trying to break their will but the opposite is occuring.

2. I'd be impressed
If they were demonstating against the Syrian government's ruthless suppression of dissent. Crowds demonstating in a dictatorship in support of the dictatorship's government and its positions don't mean anything, no matter what the country and what the issue.

3. Damascus is close to Hizbollah rocket positions
Which are notoriously inaccurate.

Those people should be more careful.
