Another reason for Democratic Majority: Waxman chair of Gov. Reform!!
You think Chairman Tom Davis (republican) is going to do anything to reform this government? I was absolutely flabbergasted by this article from Henry Waxman about how OUR tax dollars are paying for LIES!!!!

http://www.democrats.reform.house.gov/story.asp?ID=1080

Federally Funded Pregnancy Resource Centers Mislead Teens about Abortion Risks

A new study released by Rep. Henry A. Waxman finds that federally funded pregnancy resource centers often mislead pregnant teens about the medical risks of abortion, telling investigators who posed as pregnant 17-year-olds that abortion leads to breast cancer, infertility, and mental illness.
87 percent of the centers reached by investigators provided false or misleading information about abortion.

Under the Bush Administration, pregnancy resource centers, which are also called “crisis pregnancy centers,” have received over $30 million in federal funding. The new report assesses the scientific accuracy of the information they provide. Female investigators, who posed as pregnant 17-year-olds seeking advice about an unintended pregnancy, telephoned the 25 pregnancy resource centers that have received capacity-building funds from the Department of Health and Human Services.

<<<<<snip>>>>>

The centers provided false and misleading information about a link between abortion and breast cancer. There is a medical consensus that induced abortion does not cause an increased risk of breast cancer. Despite this consensus, eight centers told the caller that having an abortion would in fact increase her risk. One center said that “all abortion causes an increased risk of breast cancer in later years," while another told the caller that an abortion would “affect the milk developing in her breasts” and that the risk of breast cancer increased by as much as 80% following an abortion.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I still can't believe they are telling this blatent lie even though it has been proven over and over and over again that there is no connection between Breast Cancer and Abortion. And yet these clinics are getting OUR tax dollars to spread these lies. I found this article on Yahoo:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060717/ap_on_go_ot/abortion_counseling_centers_2

Care Net, an umbrella group for evangelical pregnancy centers across the country, instructs its affiliates to tell callers there is a possibility that abortion can lead to greater risk of breast cancer, according to Molly Ford, an official with the organization. She said there have been several studies that say it does, and several that say it doesn't.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

If Carenet is spreading the lies that were PROVEN from that National Cancer Institute to be lie then these centers should NOT receive our tax dollars. Scary thing is, the money from the government is NOT used ever for paying for abortions but to help with other much needed family planning including (supposively) providing low cost health care to those who are expecting.

:grr: :grr: :grr:

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

If we had a democrat majority then we would give Henry Waxman the power to investigate these government wrong doings, like using tax dollars to spread lies. And with the majority chair he would have the ability to formulate the legistlation that comes out his committee and spearhead FULL committee hearings where actions would be the results

1. This is what I tell people....
When they say they're not interested in getting folks like Ben Nelson or Joe Lieberman re-elected. Look, should they both win their primaries, the time to trash them is over. There's a lot more at stake than their individual races. I hope Lieberman loses his primary and Lamont gets elected, but if Joe does win, we better hope he gets elected. Same w/ Nelson, but I don't know his situation as well.

2. After the primaries are overwith if you're not from Florida or Connecticut
then it's not your problem. Worry about your state where maybe you can make a difference or if you live in a state where there isn't much you can do to make a difference (like me in Delaware) - go somewhere that you can.
