IMHO winning in 06 and 08 is all about Iraq.
The whole Rove "cut and run" strategy is designed to make the Democrats look weak on national defense. What we need to realize, IMHO, is that Karl WILL frame the debate. We hate his guts, but he is the absolute hands down master of campaign propaganda. He knows nuance does not matter in cow country. The actual substance, the truth, does not matter. Only the strong message hammered home contantly.

IMHO Democrats can't allow "cut and run" to force us to avoid dealing with Iraq, or hem and haw about it and put our muscle to the very important list of issues that we know will make differences in people's lives. Cow country doesn't want to hear a list. They want to hear "bring it on".

So I say, we look Karl Rove right in the face and say "bring it on". You want a debate about Iraq "bring it on". We need to hammer home at every single opportunity. If you think Iraq was worth it, vote for Republicans. If you don't vote for Democrats. We need Murtha and every retired general out there saying it's time to rethink what is happening in Iraq. We need to shove the raw violence of Baghdad in the faces of cow country voters.

It is all about Iraq. Karl said so. Let's tell him to "bring it on".

1. I agree completely.
People need to study the meaning of the word "proactive". It means to be strategically ahead, in as many ways as possible, ahead of where others are on an issue, so you are prepared for them when they ___________. Democrats have not sorted out the differences between being on the offense (negative) and being strategically proactive (positive).

2. I totally agree....
every other issues is secondary. We need to pound them on the war, the mess they've made, the lies they've told, the numbers killed......... EVERYTHING.

your opponent's weaknesses will take care of themselves.

Karl needs to have done to him what he would do unto others.

hit him his self-proclaimed strong points.

like cheney keeps saying over and over that he welcomes the debate on national security -let him have one.

4. True Dems. should have no trouble breezing to victory in Nov.
especially with this upcoming Stem Cell Veto. Just tie the GW around the necks of all Reps. and neocons and hope that the voting machines are not Diebold!!

5. According to Lakoff
It's all about "values" and not appearing snotty and condescending. The majority votes for people who are as dumb as they are, "have they heart in the right place", and appear good drinking buddies.

6. I completely disagree
In '06 I think we should relentlessly emphasize homeland priorities, how we would improve the daily lives of Americans if we were restored to power. We own those issues and can make headway there.

What is the winning strategy on Iraq? We can't denounce the war to our benefit. Everyone can see how poorly it's going. Likewise, it's accepted we went in without vaild reason or plan.

Democrats need to stop pretending the GOP playbook is what will work for us. The lousy handicapping in that regard continually amazes me around here.

It's like we're jealous they can get by with phony attacks so we want to do the same. Meanwhile, our fortunes don't rest with those ignorant white males who listen to right wing radio all day and will never vote for a Democrat, they reside with conflicted white females who want to vote on domestic issues but have been scared post 9/11 and shifted to the GOP in critical percentage of a few percent. How do you think we win them back, by talking about Iraq all day? That merely reinforces Iraq and terrorism should be their top priority and they will vote Republican. Brilliant masochistic strategy.
