Rep. Chris Shays (R-CT) is voting for Lieberman
http://www.cqpolitics.com/2006/07/ct_a_senate_circus_with_three.html

"The House Republicans, meanwhile, seem to be banking on Lieberman’s ultimate success and are seeking to associate themselves with the state’s most prominent Democrat.

Shays, in fact, endorsed Lieberman back in February and has stood by that position even as Schlesinger emerged as a Republican candidate and received his state party’s official endorsement. “Chris is going to vote for Sen. Lieberman. That’s all it is,” said Michael Sohn, Shays’ campaign manager. “For him it’s about principle. . . . took a very courageous stand on an issue that’s important to Christopher,” he said."

It must be because Lieberman is so progressive :eyes:

1. How is Shays going to vote for Joe in the primary?
Or is he talking about in the general election?

2. It might also be because Lieberman is a good statesman...
Who has represented his state in the Senate well during the last 18 years. But that kind of messes up your theory.

4. Ted Kennedy's a good statesman too
but you don't see Sean Hannity offering to hold Conservatives for Kennedy fundraisers.

9. What does Sean Hannity have to do with anything?
Chris Shays lives in Connecticut and is running for office. So his opinion of another Congressman is important, especially if that Congressman (Lieberman) has high approval ratings. Ted Kennedy is a good statesman, and that's why 1) there's never a strong GOP challenge to Kennedy, and 2) many Massachusetts Republicans vote for him.

6. Why are Joe's approval ratings from Repubs in CT much higher than
his approval ratings from Dems in CT?

10. Probably the same reason his Indie approval ratings are higher.
Because he puts his convictions and his state above national politics, which runs contrary to the Democratic Party's agenda of "party first, constituency second." Democratic activists therefore don't support him, pulling down his approval ratings from the left.

11. Just making sure I understand you correctly
"Democratic Party's agenda of party first, constituency second."

So Republicans don't have that agenda?
Greens don't have that agenda?
What are some other examples of Democrats having this agenda that other parties don't.

Why are Nelson of Nebraska's ratings from Democrats higher, though not a lot, than they are from independents and Republicans?
Why does Nelson have higher approval ratings than Lieberman overall?

I'd appreciate it if you could answer these questions.

13. Because Nebraska Democrats are different from CT Democrats.
I didn't make any claims about any other parties. I just noted that many people who are rooting for Ned Lamont care more about national politics than they do about the state of Connecticut. While that is one valid way to look at an election, its not the only one.

Its also interesting to note that the majority of Ned Lamont's funraising (with the exception of the amount of his own money that he's pumped into the race) has come from out-of-state donations.

14. The problem I have with mr. Mentum is that
his priorities are--himself first, the fascist regime second, the democratic party a distant third and the people, including us "national" constituency people, a fading last place.

15. I disagree.
I would count it: the voters of Connecticut, first, the Democratic Party, second, out-of-state Democrats, third.

18. As someone IN CT, that's just not the case
He hasn't been putting constituents first. He hasn't been listening, he's been too busy campaigning for VP or Pres or Republican's favorite Dem.

He's scared now, and he should be. He forgot where he came from.

This isn't just about the war. I've seen more Lamont lawn-signs around from people who never display them. I've talked to more people who just plain don't like Lieberman, or they way he's been representing CT.

His convictions? This is the waffle man, who never decides on an issue until he's sure it's politically expedient.

Frankly, he needs a good spanking, and I think he's going to get it on the 8th. And then he'll win the general as an I. But hopefully he'll go back to DC a very chastened man.

21. Ned Lamont is going to be in Willimantic on Thursday.
He's going to be at a small gathering at somebody's house in Windham from 5:00-7:00 p.m., followed by an appearance at Willimantic's 3rd Thursday Streetfest.

20. Or that Lieberman has more in common with the RNC than the DNC.
Of course, how could I, a lifelong resident of Connecticut, possibly know as much about my state's politics as you do?

So I can see why Shays isn't supporting his own party's guy.

Than Lieberman is a Democrat. Shays is pulling a Miller-Schaeffer-Koch-Kelley move.
