2. Waived ~ THIS time......
Edited on Tue Jul-18-06 07:01 PM by Mind_your_head
...it's setting a 'new precedent'. The US (or any other country) before would never ever DREAM of charging for evacuating their citizens from some 'suddenly dangerous' place. Such a service was a normal expectation that citizens would expect as protection provided by their government.

No, this is something new and these PRIVATEERS are 'sticking with it'. That's why they're using the word "waive".

The idea of charging citizens to be evacuated.....next time or "some other time" charges won't be waived.

edit: clarity

3. How many Americans are over there?
Wonder why so many are right there. That would be scary to be stranded in a foreign country anyway, and with all this fighting, it's downright horrifying.

4. There are estimated to be 25,000 US citizens in Lebanon
Most of these (no estimates given) are 'hyphen' Americans, often with dual citizenship, like Lebanese-American.

5. Thanks for response
I wasn't aware of that aspect. That's even sadder when you think about the fact many of them were just going to see family again; and then get caught up in turmoil.
