Illinois GOP officials volunteering to help defeat Dennis Hastert?
Edited on Tue Jul-18-06 10:32 PM by benburch
Yes. It is true. I heard this tonight at a local Democratic Party meeting.

The wheels have come off the Hastert Candidacy!

PLEASE lets capitalize on this! Send some money to John Laesch!

http://www.john06.com/donate

We can send the GOP Speaker Of The House down in FLAMES this election. We can deliver a HUMILIATING blow to the GOP Crime Syndicate.

You can be part of history, replacing Dennis Hastert with a progressive Democratic candidate who will fight for a new agenda:

An affordable national healthcare program.
A strong, "Made in America" economy.
An education system that provides an equal opportunity for all children.
An exit strategy for our troops in Iraq.

PLEASE! Do it TONIGHT.

3. That one picture ALONE could do it.
And YES, I think he will go down to DEFEAT!

But ONLY if you support John Laesch with money, time, or both.

11. I have to ask: Why would they want to defeat one of their own?
Looking a gift horse in the mouth...

13. Can you tell us any details?
I wasn't aware of any rift in the Illinois GOP. What's it all about?

16. I was told the datails of the recent motivation for this...
...but I don't recall them well enough to post them here. Sorry. But those details were in addition to the the complete meltdown the Illinois GOP has been in for the last six years. If you don't see the rift it is because you haven't paid enough attention.

14. Sounds like a fundraising appeal by the local party
I don't believe there is any significant faction of the ILGOP that wants to bring down Hastert, and few IL Democrats have such desires either.

Hastert isn't going anywhere in this election, the 6th and 8th districts are where IL Dems should focus their attention.

And frankly, if Republicans are going to have a majority, I'd rather have Hastert being from our state there than any of the other repubs.

Either way this will likely be his last term since GOP caucus rules term-limit him as speaker after the next Congress, also I'm sure he would resign his seat if the GOP loses it majority in November and we might have a better shot at the special election following it.

15. Whose side are you on?
We don't need that sort of negativity here on DU.

17. Its not negativity, its realism
If someone has $50 to donate to a political campaign, they should give it to Bean or Duckworth, not some lost cause in Hastert's district.
