The Pretzeldent needs Bubba sais a Repuke!!!!
SNIP>Smullen, a Republican, the Bush administration is in a corner. Traditional diplomacy has little chance. The U.S. is diplomatically estranged from Syria and Iran, two of the major players in this conflict, while Hezbollah is a diplomatic "untouchable" because of terrorist activities. President Bush needs to find a special envoy, Smullen said, an administration outsider whose global reputation is matched only by his negotiating skills.

The answer is Bill Clinton, Smullen said.<SNIP

SNIP>"The envoy suggestion is a sound one (because) of the strength he brings to discussions between people at odds with one another," Smullen said. "He hears both sides. He listens to both sides. And he arbitrates so well. ... He came so close and he almost brought peace to the Palestinians and Israelis at Camp David."<SNIP

1. There were numerous reports in the press that former Sec. of State Jim
Baker was in the White House, working low-profile, as of some time this past spring or so.

Presumably, he's working on SOMETHING.

Maybe I'm wrong on that. Maybe he isn't doing a damned thing. Maybe he's remodeling the patio deck. Tinkering with the landscaping a little. Re-thinking the petunias' color scheme. Using the White House as a temporary office while he pingpongs back and forth to tag sales in the DC area.

A subtle, refined cultural polymath, that Jim Baker.

As loathsome has he certainly is, he's not unintelligent. It might be a good thing if someone who doesn't have bean mesh for brains were to advise this president regarding the conduct of his office.

4. Yep. Baker's made me nervous since forever.
What is he doing, and wouldn't it be nice if somebody in the press addressed his presence in the White House, etc.

3. It lost me at "Clinton would provide political cover for the prez."
My favorite line:"Staff members at Clinton’s Harlem office did not return calls Tuesday."
