Hillary and Rupert try to have a secret breakfast ??????

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/story/435980p-367343c.html

Hil, Rupert sly as Fox at fund-raiser

Two of the most public people in the world had a chummy breakfast yesterday, but media mogul Rupert Murdoch and Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) tried to keep their political get-together as secret as possible.

There were no Fox News cameras to record the odd couple breaking bread together at Murdoch's News Corp. headquarters in midtown, where, after years of attacking her, the conservative Murdoch hosted a fund-raiser for Clinton's Democratic Senate campaign.

The campaign refused to even confirm the time or location of the controversial fund-raiser. No estimate of the take or number of people who attended was released.

New York's junior senator did not make an appearance on "Fox and Friends" on her way out of the building just after 10a.m. She didn't even go through the News Corp. lobby, slipping out a side door onto W.48th St., where the CBS show "Without a Trace" was filming up the block.

1. Go to Plan B
She's simply unelectable. Give her all the money she needs to steamroll her way into the nomination, then throw the machine into reverse, defeating her during the general elections.

You think Murdoch's doing this because he wants to see a Democrat in the White House in 2009?

2. All the RW voices do it
The ones saying HC would be a great nominee are people who work for her or expect to, and every RW voice. The more I hear Jay Severin say she is the most formidable Dem, the more I worry about what he knows that we don't.

4. Thank you.
I couldn't have said it better myself.

HILLARY

IS

UNELECTABLE

I believe your scenario is the real deal here. I truly do.

That having been said... the world seems to be demanding we pay attention closely to what's happening now. 2006 is upon us, and we have to make some changes, if possible (read: Diebold) -- or, at least start to. Shame on Hillary for making her deal with the devil, but who could expect differently? Big money and corporations come first in her book, and let the people fend for themselves.

8. Look more closely at Murdock's contributions
They were bi-partisan until some time in 2001, then it looks all Republican. It may be that he was a slease until 2001, when he became a RW slease. Also, none of the contributions were above $2,000. I seriously doubt any Senator sold out anything for $2000.

12. I know that - the point was that for the majority of the people listed
Edited on Wed Jul-19-06 04:43 PM by karynnj
there was very little total money given - certainly too little to influence them and it was given at least 5 years ago. Murdock HOSTED a fundraiser for Hillary - how do you compare that to a $2000 given 5 or more years ago?

13. Doesn't compare at all...
I don't see the problem...obviously a political move to try and neuter somewhat a constant irritant. Smart politics if you ask me...

The fox news pac gives out quite a bit more!

15. OK, I went back over all your posts and think I understand what you
are saying. I think your point is that Hillary accepting a Murdock offer to host a political fundraiser is not wrong. I agree it is being done publicly and it is legal. The liability of doing this is that her name will be (and in all fairness should be) associated with his - a name not highly reguarded in Democratic circles.

Where I disagree with you is when you then equivilance this to accepting a legal personal donation of $2000 or less. There is a huge difference here and I really don't understand why you felt the need to use the fact that the campaigns of these listed politicians accepted valid contributions.

to ensuring their defeat.

Who really believes that Murdoch makes those donations to Dems for any honest reason?

He buys himself COVER with the rest of the media that way, and he buys plenty of lefties who promote the claim, "See - no difference between the parties" because they can't see the difference between $2000 to Dems and $200,000,000 worth of network time promoting the GOP candidate and fascist agenda.

7. The very person whose media empire hounded her husband from the
time he was Elected. Now she takes money from him and eats breakfast with him.

Can someone explain how what she went through would allow her to do that? Is it just she knows how to make good lemonaide out of lemons?

11. First of all...if you will look at my post above...
Hillary has not taken money from either Murdoch or Fox News (unlike alot of other Democrats).

Second this is a classic political strategy. SHe is trying to neuter some of the harsh criticism sure to come at her...sounds like a smart political move to me.

16. Accepting his offer of a hosting a fundraiser is FAR MORE MONEY
than the $2000 maximum of his personal donations. Are you seriously saying that politicians who did not reject $2000 sent into their campaigns are MORE quilty of taking money from Murdoch?

It is a smart move - she gets money and she spends time with a man who controls a news network. You can't have it both ways though - if accepting this fundraiser is ok, so is the acceptance of contributions by others.
