Both my Mississippi Senators voted for Stem Cell Research
Lord is this the big one? I have to take a day off (just one day) of Lott bashing. I will resume with trent bashing soon.

1. I think there was vote trading going on
They got together to figure out who would vote to ban and how many it would take to block an override and then divvied it up among the criminals, based on who was up for election where, to do the least damage possible to the incumbents.

And Smirky's base can get all fired up. And america can continue to lose its edge in scientific research.

2. Not true. Vulnerable Repubs voted against it
even though most Americans want it. DeWine, Santorum, Talent and Allen all voted against it. I don't see how appealing to the 30%ers is going to outweigh pissing off the 70%ers.

4. That is what I don't understand about
Lotts vote. He certainly is not vulnerable and no doubt the yahoos in Mississipppi don't want stem cell research but he voted for it. Maybe he has a family member in a nursing home! Maybe he has a heart?

5. Those 30 percenters vote like theres no tomorrow
They hand out voting guides in church on Sundays. They vote very very very dependably for the RW whacko's, where as the other 70 percent, not so much....in fact not so much at all.

Santorum is just fucking bat shit crazy. I don't know about the other two.

I do know that vote trading goes on, but I don't know if it went on in this situation.

6. The 30 percenters couldn't help Ralph Reed or Roy Moore
win their Repub primaries, and they are fundies living in the heart of fundyland.

8. Right and of the 70%ers, a large percentage don't care that much
one way or the other.

14. DeWine is ever-so-vulnerable
I can only imagine he did so because of some ass-saving deal he made up the road that forced him to vote this way.

I have the same hypothesis about why Boxer has gone to support Leiberman.

3. I'm afraid
lott has way too much "political capital" in Mississippi; he can vote whichever way he wants. I have emailed his democratic opponent three times (A Mississippi State Representative) and have yet to receive a reply. I want to help the guy but my efforts are falling on deaf (computers.) I'm sending a few bucks to Casey in PA. If lott wins and santorum loses I'll have a grand old Mardi Gras Celebration on election night.

9. It seems pretty clear that Lott is going to win, and Casey too.
So it would probably be worth sending your money to Dems who are running neck in neck in the polls, and really need the help.

Some Dems running close races are McCaskill in MO, Brown in OH, and Whitehouse in RI.

IMO, of course. :)

11. Thanks for that info
I've been somewhat myopic with Casey but I did read an article recently on McCaskill and she's "fixing to" to kick ass in Harry Truman's homestate. Go Dems.

7. But this was both Mississippi senators AND
Edited on Wed Jul-19-06 02:25 PM by LynneSin
both of them are in pretty safe seats (I think Lott is up for re-election).

Even a broken clock can be right twice a day. Perhaps that's what happened here with Lott & Cochran's vote

And if that were the case, then why would DeWine and Santorum both vote against Stem Cell research when both are in very difficult re-election races where Stem Cell Research is overwhelmingly supported

12. Easy win-they knew it would be vetoed and that there was no override
possible. If it is brought up they will just credit W for "keeping his promise" ( you are going to hear a lot about promises I suspect) and the dolt who raised the question will forget what they asked and sit back down.

13. Cochran and Lott are carved in stone in MS
They couldn't lose here if they tried! Nevertheless, I'm pleased with their vote on this issue.

Call me crazy but SOMEWHERE under that hair, I suspect there's a decent human being hiding who is just afraid to come out. He's been a bit different than the "old Trent" since Katrina. C'mon Trent, let him out!

17. I think the same thing
I truly believe that deep down inside, way deep down inside, trent lott is a decent human being (and Katrina aided and abetted that.) I can't imagine him siding with the likes of bush and cheney and rumsfeld. And no doubt, he's more of a leader then frist could ever imagine to be.

What the hecks up with Fleming? Does he not return email inquiry's from potential supporters?

I'm disgusted with them.

Jeff Sessions is the biggest bushlicker alive.

for his support in 2004. Bill Nelson, to his credit, voted for funding for the bill.
