Poll question: Bush logic concerning Stem cell research vs. "Sanctity of Life"
Edited on Wed Jul-19-06 02:44 PM by zulchzulu
Embryos used for possible stem cell research are called blastocysts. These blastocysts will be thrown away after a certain time. Perhaps they are murdered when they get thrown away, according to Bush's childish, binary logic.

So as all blastocysts are persons, then...

3. According to the bill he vetoed...
Only blastocysts from IVF clinics that were already destined to be thrown out were going to be used for this research. Yet he surrounds himself with "snowflake kids" saying he will NOT allow these "embryos" to be "murdered" for the sake of science. Yet he'll allow them to be "murdered" WITHOUT any research being done on them first? Great thinking. :sarcasm:

4. Trouble is this argument is convincing to many.
And here is the nature of the problem, saying a blastocyst isn't human requires defining Homo sapiens in such a way that part of the life-cycle is human and part of it is not.

I'm all for women having reproductive rights including abortion. I'm just pointing out the problem.

5. What problem?
Homo sapiens is not a blastocyst, regardless of what Bushco says.

6. Trouble is these blastocysts OR embryos...
will be destroyed even if they are NOT used for research.

7. Snot and sperm are human too
To blithely say that a blastocyst is human and therefore (insert blah blah blah weasel-headed argument here) is utterly bereft of scientific reason.

Should we just not allow science to continue with stem cell research and let the blastocycsts be thrown out...not saving blastocysts should be considered murder if the half-witted theory is to be "believed".

It's not dissing you, it's just all about saying that a blastocyst left alone in a freezer is not viable.
